An interview with ALPHAMAY about their release “The Mellow Collie”
This week in our interview section we had an interview with ALPHAMAY.
ALPHAMAY return with “The Mellow Collie” on their fifth anniversary. „The Mellow Collie“ is released on Battersea Electric on May 11th, 2018. It is available as download, stream and as limited edition of 50 CDs and 50 Tapes.
So on this exciting occasion for all ALPHAMAY fans we got this opportunity to interview them for our blog.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
ALPHAMAY : Hi, we are Henning and Cris of the German Synthpop band Alphamay. We are very happy about this interview opportunity.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to launch ALPHAMAY?
ALPHAMAY : Cris always wanted to get into electronic music, but only after a car accident in wich we both were involved, the opportunity arose to make this dream a reality. In this accident Cris` back got broken and he’s been paralyzed and in a wheelchair ever since. After this chance in his life he decided to not delay any of his plans any more and to start „Alphamay“. Even the name of the band derives from this tragedy as the accident happened on May the 1st – translating to Alpha (first letter of the greek alphabet) and May.
Musically we both share roots in 80ies pop music and the love to old school electronic sounds.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent project Mellow collie?
ALPHAMAY : With our new mini-album we are sharing a present with our audience celebrating our fifth band anniversary. The music on this special EP is darker and more resembling the electronic avantgarde of the late 80s and early 90s. This is stuff we truly love and it was a lot of fun diving into this special blend of sounds.
Twist Online : What kind of response have you received from the release?
ALPHAMAY : The press has been very, very kind to us and we have been receiving amazing reviews from all over the world. We also noticed a massive growth in followers from completely new regions we could not reach out to so far, especially – and unexpectedly – from Asian countries. This is a very nice feeling to know your music is globally appreciated.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
ALPHAMAY : We definitely love both and it is quite a natural phenomenon to get hungry to get on stage and perform when you have spent time in the studio. On the other side there is always a point in the touring phase of a musician’s life when you want to get new songs into the studio and out to get published. With an average of one album and 20-30 shows and festivals each year we keep balanced well.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
ALPHAMAY : That is a hard one and one we can not answer properly. We love and create a wide range of music with our different bands and projects. But I guess we can say we appreciate the darker, gloomier side of music. In general we can say that we don’t discriminate against any kind of music genre.
