A Conversation With ‘A&L’ About Their Music
Seasoned duo A&L is back with new music. This will be Anthony Casuccio and Lana Marie’s fourth single. Cliché is an upbeat, pop/alt-country song with catchy hooks and killer guitar riffs.
So we grabbed this opportunity and interviewed them about their new single as well as the other things their fans would love to know.
Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into music?
Lana: I was the lion in a school play and got a standing ovation and ever since that moment I wanted to sing.
In 9th grade, I wrote my first song and had a friend in the musical with me play it on piano and we got another standing ovation. I knew right there that’s what I wanted to do; entertain and sing. I loved being in the spot light and have not looked back.
Anthony: For me it was hearing The Beatles. I was hit by the songwriting and the fame. I thought it was so cool even though they had not written anything in 20 years. I became more interested in the technical aspects of recording and songwriting. That led me to getting into recording production. I have been fortunate to have worked on some amazing projects. But I have always worked on original music
Twist Online : What’s the story behind A&L?
We have been together about two years.
Anthony: I met Lana when I was producing some jingles and I asked her to sing on a few. A year or two later, I wrote our first song Get Me a Drink and thought she would be perfect to sing on it.
We did it for fun but received such a positive response that we figured, hey lets do another song together. We released our 4th single called Cliche and will release an EP this fall.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recently release single “Cliché”?
Cliché is an upbeat, pop/alt-country song with catchy hooks and killer guitar riffs. “We wanted to poke fun at the typical love song lyrics.”
Cliché takes a comedic look at the typical subject matter and lines used in songwriting. BUT the intervals used in the harmonies have been changed to add an inside joke, that is not cliché.
We changed some minor thirds to major thirds to add a little dissonance.
Twist Online : Your music is getting so much attention recently. You must be excited about that?
We are thrilled and excited. Having our second song chart in Europe is a great achievement. We hope to capitalize on the success this winter. Hoping to put together a winter tour.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Lana: I love classic rock and a bit of Country. My influences are janis Joplin, Ann Wilson and Pat Benetar.
Anthony: I am a huge Beatles fan but love Prog Rock like Rush (Hey I was born in Buffalo NY their second home). I am drawn to harmonies.
Twist Online : Performing live or working in studios, What’s more entertaining?
I think what makes us a great team, is Lana is amazing on stage, a true rock star. Me (Anthony) I love being in the studio and creating music. Our songs resonate with fans and when we play live, Lana engages the audience.
Twist Online : You have achievements individually as well as DUO. What will rate as your best achievement so far?
Lana: I think we both can say having our song Cliche in the Euro Indie Music Top 20 for the entire summer.
Twist Online : What are your future goals as a music artist?
We hope to keep moving forward with our music and grow our fan base.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new projects?
We will release an EP this fan and we hope to tour Europe in the winter.
Twist Online : Are you on Social Media? Your fans would love to follow you.
