A conversation with an aspiring artist RB
We are sharing our recent interview with very talented artist ‘RB’.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
RB : Hi, I am RB, an aspiring artist and young father from West London. I have a broad artistic interest in both music and video production. Being half Portuguese and half Zimbabwean, I have experienced a mix of cultures to form a brand around. #RealBonds
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into the music industry?
RB : Having spent time away from my parents when they initially moved to the UK, I spent a lot of time singing over records my dad had left behind; in particular Michael Jackson and my biggest influence ‘Ricardo and Sons – Daddy’.
Into my teenage years, I later developed a deeper love for rhythm an blues, always listening to artists such as Omarion, Ray J, Mario and Chris Brown during my puppy love days.
I had a point where grime was my life spending my days in the playground ‘Spitting’ over old school grime beats like No help no Handouts, Ghetto Kyote etc. This really set the foundation for the vast pool of flows and techniques I now use in my music. After Spending last summer at an artist workshop with Link Up TV I got a deeper understanding of brand and Values 2019 is the year i express my journey through music.
Twist Online : Tell us about your upcoming release ‘No’?
RB : Well ‘NO’ is a song I have been spending the majority of the early months of 2018 to practice and hone my skills and vocal range. Working alongside ICANIS beats this song was developed from scratch within the walls of a home studio, with passion and using new techniques to commercialise my vision. It is a raunchy late night kind of song, intended to inspire my audience to push past the butterflies when going to meet the potential love of your life. Strong melodies, double entendres, magical harmonies, and positivity are the main ingredients for this song, have a listen and let your imagination run wild.
Twist Online : What about the lyrics, you wrote it?
RB : Lyrics? I wrote these lyrics over the space of a month, working closely with my producer to ensure that we are staying within the brief we had set for ourselves. Over that month there was over 4 different verses, using different commercial writing techniques but I wanted the song to feel like a rollercoaster while maintaining linear storyline to assist with any potential visuals in the future.
Some of the lyrics we sprinkled in to intentionally throw off the listener so that it maintains their interest in listening to the song by playing on multiple emotions.
Twist Online : What kind of response you are expecting from the release?
RB : From this release I expect my current fans to see how much improvement has been made to the production of my work over the last year,I expect it to draw in new consumers and show people a fraction of what I’m capable of, I am going to be using a lot of new marketing techniques on this project this is to help harness a way of releasing my music to maximize capital and growth with each release!…. I expect a lot of lads to be upset that I’m their girls new favourite UK Artist!
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
RB : R&B/Hip-Hop with a 90s flair
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
RB : I intend to release and promote enough music this year to expand my true fan base to at least triple figures, the #RealBonds movement is just about to start, in the next we months I would like to have enough people on my mailing lists to fill up a small venue when I perform, and generally the feeling of having someone on the other side of the world or country listening and enjoying my music would give me huge satisfaction
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
RB : Ofcourse!! I love what I do and I can feel my growth every time we record, I plan to make a really big push with the next two projects including NO, the collaboration with another artist has allowed us to expand the budget for production, marketing and PR. The plan is to go even harder every time a new project is released, and aim to have a new song or video up, every month this year, with the takeover starting this summer!
