A Conversation With An Up and Coming Midwest Artist WLKR

We are sharing our recent interview with a talented up and coming rapper WLKR. He recently released his debut single OceanVu.

Twist Online : First of all do introduce yourself to our readers?
WLKR : Alright well my name is Walker but I go by my stage name WLKR. I’m a rapper/singer from Des Moines, Iowa. I started rapping almost 2 years ago and got really big into it and since then have been working hard to prove myself to be a valuable contender in the music industry.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
WLKR : My biggest inspiration is the just way music makes me feel. I remember sitting in my dad’s car every morning on the way to school listening to his 90’s rap CD, “Booty Shakin’ Hits”. Hahaha that thing was loaded with hits! Tone Loc, Blackstreet, Montell Jordan, Snow, Digital Undergroud. It was and still is a literal classic and personal favorite of mine. I remember learning all the words to like, all those songs. I still belt “This Is How We Do It” on the daily. It wasn’t until I turned 20 though that I decided to actually pursue music choosing to actually pursue my dream.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release?
WLKR : My most recent release is “OceanVu”. It’s my first single I’ve ever released and is with one of my favorite producers, TheBeatPlug. I asked a friend I met through Instagram to be on it because I saw his music and the following he has and knew he’d be a perfect fit. His name is Eric Howl. He’s very talented and really completed the song. The basis of the song is that I am the “Good Guy” and Eric is the “Bad Boy” and the girl has to decide who she likes better based off of our pitches we give.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
WLKR : The response has been overwhelmingly positive! Everyone has said so far that they love the song. “It’s catchy”, “It’s smooth”, “It’s got a great beat”. All reasons why I picked it as my first single. I knew Eric and I’s fans would love it.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
WLKR : Definitely performing. I loved my first show and have already planned another for November 25th. Performing is one of the main reasons I love music. Entertaining fans whether it’s on stage or in a music video, it’s great!

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
WLKR : Definitely Rap/Hip-Hop. I love R&B though too. Definitely have influences from R&B.

Twist Online : Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
WLKR : I have. My Main goal is to make it all the way to the top. Im talking Drake level. That may sound cliche but its how I truly feel. I know I have what it takes and would like nothing more than to have my full-time job become music. I love giving back so it would be an even better platform to do it from as well.

Twist Online : Are you currently working on any other project?
WLKR : I am. It’s still under wraps but I am working on a debut project. Not sure if it’ll be an actual album or more of a Chance The Rapper, Coloring Book type project, but it’ll be great! Excited to keep releasing singles and get my career really moving in the right direction.
