A conversation with DeuXchapo about his recent projects
We are sharing our recent interview with music artist DeuXchapo
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
DeuXchapo : Hey, guys! My name is Kenneth Brown, also know as DeuXchapo and I’m hailing from Portland, Oregon.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
DeuXchapo : I started free-styling with a group of friends who started a collective called EL-Clique in Eugene, Oregon. I eventually started doing group tracks with them, until I had a 7 song EP titled Wintr I decided to drop in January of 2018.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ?
DeuXchapo : I released another project near the end of May, 2019 titled Sprung. This project touched on a more sensitive and artistic side of my music. It includes titles such as Evol Thots, which is a melodic piece with hints of R&B. Hath, which is an experimental track with melodies and free-style rap. And then Fish, which is a heavy bass song containing ample energy and metal vibes. We are in the process of editing a video for it that should be released within the next few weeks.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
DeuXchapo : I have received amazing responses for being independent. Sprung was a piece I took time with and tried to make every song different. Between AppleMusic and Spotify alone I’m generating close to 1,000 plays monthly without promotion. My Instagram has also been gaining 500+ followers monthly so my fan base is growing, as well as my plays.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
DeuXchapo : To be completely honest, I am a bit on the shy side. I’m more attracted to vibing out in the studio where we have ambient lighting to set our moods. When I’m in the booth I really let loose and perform for myself.. Almost like a form of therapy. I’ve only performed twice, but the second time was amazing. We threw a two days festival in Eugene called Solstice. We had local acts, breaking even on the first night (Hip Hop night) and then profiting our second night which was all Electronic.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
DeuXchapo : I’m going to be performing at Coast2Coast showcase in Portland, Oregon August 4th at the Paris Theatre. This will be one of my biggest performances and I will be judged by some more involved people on the Industry. There is a cash prize for the winner, but I’m doing it purely for the experience and exposure.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
DeuXchapo : When I first started I kept telling myself I didn’t want to be famous, just rich.. but that was a lie. I do want to be known, and build a brand. I mean, that’s how people listen to your music. All of my projects I consider to be therapeutic and share some darker more sensitive parts of my mind. I hope I can connect to people in that way to show them that we are all about weird and broken.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
DeuXchapo : Besides the video we want to drop soon, I am working on a track right now with my producer Haywood, who is also the founder of EL-Clique, and a close and very talented friend that goes by Quez. This track is something I’m super stoked on and will be released as a single. The date is still TBA as we are taking our time with this one as well. I only want to make hits from now on!
