A Conversation With Lebanese Rock Singer IJK
We are sharing here our recent interview with Dubai based Lebanese Rock Singer and Songwriter IJK.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers?
IJK : My name is IJK, I am a singer –songwriter originally from Beirut Lebanon and now based in Dubai. My best companion is my guitar and my mission in life is to entertain people who listen to my music.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into this music?
IJK : My earliest influence is probably Elvis Presley. I was fascinated by the King’s voice and his rock n roll dance moves since my early teens which inspired me to start singing during school parties and start my first band at uni. We used to play some rock and roll, classic rock and alternative pop rock.
Twist Online : Space Odyssey was your first original song. You must be excited on its release?
IJK : Yes indeed! I worked hard to get it produced and finally released in the format I wished. The lyrics video has been out only a few days ago and already garnering many views and positive reviews. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the link:
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent releases?
IJK : Well Space Odyssey is my most recent release to date. I am planning to release 2 new singles in 2017 both recorded in London. We are currently working on the music videos.
Twist Online : Any reason for going for rock & roll as your music genre?
IJK : Rock & roll has been a major influence on my musical upbringing since a very young age. Artists like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis or Roy Orbison are godfathers of modern rock music and I believe every rock singer-songwriter today is directly or indirectly influenced by them. Other genres I am into include alternative rock and pop-rock. Space Odyssey is a cheer example of piano rock which is a form of alternative rock music.
Twist Online : Why do you do what you do?
IJK : Music has been my passion since childhood. It’s a basic need for me like breathing air or eating. Music allows me to express myself in an engaging and fun way. I believe this is the main reason that drives me to dedicate time, effort and energy to my music. It’s simply an emotional drive, a passion.
Twist Online : In your opinion what role does the artist have in society?
IJK : Artists engage people and fans. Artists add joy and beauty to the world whether they are painters, dancers, sculptors, musicians or singers. Regardless of the discipline, art has always existed for the sake of itself. It has an inherent value by itself. Artists can influence people around them so I believe it is important they pay attention to influencing positively rather than negatively their fans and audiences.
Twist Online : What musical themes do you pursue?
IJK : I am not attached to any particular theme, but broadly speaking, I am into alternative rock and pop music. I tackle diverse topics in my songs from simple subjects such as describing love and other emotions to more complex and even philosophical topics such as the meaning of life and our existence.
Twist Online : Which famous musician do you admire?
IJK : I can cite many influences including Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, The Doors, A-ha and U2. I particularly admire Bono from U2. He is a great singer and an equally great philanthropist. His obvious efforts in helping others deserve utmost respect.
Twist Online : Any final words?
IJK : Thanks for the interview. I wish you and the team all the success. Keep doing what you’re doing and God bless.
