A Conversation With Multi-Talented ‘Doug Cash’
Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into music profession?
0 : Hello, I’m Doug Cash. Singer songwriter musician producer.I’ve been writing in multiple genres ( blues, pop, rock, folk, funk, metal, jazz, country ) for over 30 yrs.
I’m the president of Pryor 2 What ? Records and the owner of Pryor 2 What ? Music Publishing. I’m currently working with over a dozen licensing agencies for additional publishing opportunities in television, film, and games.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into this profession?
Doug Cash : When I was kid many moons ago, I went to my first concert. It was Sly & The family Stone, Santana opened. I told myself right there “that’s what I want to do”.
Not long after that, The Jackson 5 exploded on the scene and the world of my generation went into technicolor.
By the time I was a teenager I got into the music of The Beatles and never looked back. It was then I decided to become a singer songwriter musician.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release “Beyond”?
Doug Cash : That one felt as though it was pretty much written as I was putting pen to paper.Beyond geneder, beyond race.Beyond time, beyond space. Our love is universal.
Agape’love. The love of all things. The song tries to build a bridge with the open arms of reason and compassion.
That’s life in a nutshell. Walls and bridges.
Twist Online : What kind of response has your release has received?
Doug Cash : Very positive. It’s in constant rotation on internet radio and has received many downloads. It’s also in consideration for licensing by multiple outlets. It’s a heart warming track that offers the listener an insight to follow their passion, believe in themselves, be who you are and love yourself.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Doug Cash : That’s hard to say.I was raised on jazz and Motown. Then I was heavily enthralled by the singer songwriter movement. Then I got into progressive rock and fusion.
I was one of those nutty teenagers that was listening to Earth Wind & Fire, Sly & the Family Stone and The Ohio Players. At The same time, I was listening to Yes, Led Zeppelin and Rush. My generation was so fortunate to come through the birth of multiple genres like Fusion, progressive rock, funk, singer songwriter, and hard rock. The first time I heard John Lennon’s “Hide Your Love Away”, I told myself I had to buy an acoustic guitar.
Much of the sixties folk rock by The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield was still on the radio in the early 70s and just knocked me on my ass. By the time Crosby, Stills, Nash put out their first album a new genre had been born. The Folk rock of the 60s had become singer songwriter genre of the 70s. To this day,the Crosby, Stills, Nash album is still the standard of the genre.Though I’ve played, recorded and written in multiple genres, nothing moves me like an acoustic guitar.
Twist Online : What’s more entertaining for you working in studios or performing live on stage?
Doug Cash : Of course it’s 2 different worlds. One is based on rehearsal and the exchange of energy between you and the audience. The other has to do with your approach as a singer, songwriter, musician, producer. Plus, the relationship with your engineer is ultra important. On stage, there are always surprises when you are in a band or as a solo performer.A song can change, evolve, grow legs and take off on it’s own and you’re just along for the ride. These moments are bliss in the extreme. When the same happens in the studio it’s sublime. That’s when you look at your engineer and he looks back at you and you both just shake your
head and grin ear to ear. That’s when the session is groovin’ at it’s own pace, going of it’s own accord. Many times I’ve just bellowed in joyous laughter.
Twist Online : What are your future goals?
Doug Cash : I’m looking to sell some of my publishing catalog, receive a royalty perpetuity, license as much of my music as possible, and continue to work with local and young talent.
Twist Online : Are you working on any other new project? when it will be released?
Doug Cash : My label just released the dance album: Dizzy Miles-All The Best Vol.2 and my latest blues / pop single: Doug Cash-Not Waiting. I’m also arranging a new instrumental track called: Suicide Doors and I plan on recording a new Doug Cash album in 2017 called: Walking Dogs, I also have a cover tunes album in the works.
Twist Online : Are you active on social media? what’s the best way to follow you?
