Twist Online : At what age did you start rapping?
Phelo the Great : I started rapping in elementary school between the ages of 8-10. I continued rapping as a hobby as I matured. My lyrical genius evolved when I was in the Air Force as I listened to music from various parts of the world.
Twist Online : Who are your inspirations?
Phelo the Great : My inspirations are my daughter (Londyn Rochelle Driskell), twin flame (Valerie Denise Jones)… my late mother, birth father (Phillip Driskell), and anyone else whose played an important role in my life (positive or negative).
Twist Online : Do you have any events coming up or recording going on right now?
Phelo the Great : Yes, I have a lot of events scheduled. I am recording, as well. —- On February 2, I released my second EP PHELOSOPHY. I have tours scheduled this summer… and plenty of award shows to attend. Example: Top industry conferences such as SXSW, Revolt, and A3C. — Im also a member of a group called THE GROUP. We nicknamed ourselves TG. TG will be releasing an EP in 2018.
Twist Online : Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to rap as a career or just advice about careers in general?
Phelo the Great : My advice for those wanting to rap as a career… Learn the business. YOUR TIME IS NOW. You can accomplish whatever your heart desires. Also, work hard and have faith. Faith without work is dead.
Twist Online :When and why did you start rapping?
Phelo the Great : I started rapping between the ages of 8-10. I was a natural so it made sense. At that time I started rapping, it was mere fun. As I matured and became more experienced, my music became my job and my therapy.
Twist Online : Is your family musical?
Phelo the Great : Yes, I come from a musical family. My father and late mother love to sing. My father, Phillip Driskell, still sings. He performs whenever someone puts a microphone in his hand.
Twist Online : Describe your family member’s musical interests and abilities.
Phelo the Great : My aunt (Nona Lisa Brown) is a professional gospel singer, as well as a songwriter and musician. My aunt is my inspiration. She forever encourages me to do what I do and create awesome music.
Twist Online : Which famous musician do you admire? Why?
Phelo the Great : I admire Mr. Shawn Carter aka Jay-Z not only because he consistently drops albums full of relevant dope content, but his business and grind is impeccable. He’s on a level I aspire (daily) to reach.
Twist Online : What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?
Phelo the Great : My fondest musical memory is the Facebook Live Listening Party we had on February 2, 2018. (The day my EP titled PHELOSOPHY dropped.) We went live throughout the day so the fans could preview the entire EP — comment, ask questions — and walk away with an amazing experience.
Twist Online : If you had a soundtrack to your life what song/songs would have to be on it?
Phelo the Great : My entire catalog because it’s truly my life and my PHELOSOPHY!
