A conversation with singer and songwriter Paul Materne
Today on our Hot Seat have Paul Materne, a singer/songwriter, aspiring artist, and a single father from Dallas Texas. He has got an album coming out this year. And recently released a single from this upcoming album.
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Paul Materne : Hmmmmmmm? I do not think of myself as a professional. I think anyone who writes and creates music, if that music helps them and if no-one even hears it. I think they are as [professional] as the top selling musicians of our time. It is all about creating and letting your music help you get though the hard times and the good times in your life.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Paul Materne : Well everyone in my family sings…really good actually so music has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. But why I decided to start releasing songs, and why I am in the process of recording and putting out this new album is because I hear sooo many people listening and enjoying the STUPIDEST music these days, and to be honest it really upsets me that people are becoming famous over these songs and lyrics that don’t make any sense! And only speaking for myself EVERY song that I write comes from the deepest corners of my heart and soul. Having said that I want to put my heart out there in the form of music and see peoples reactions to something real!
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ‘Howl at the Moon’?
Paul Materne : Hahah well of course it is the single off the album coming out. The inspiration behind the song is if you don’t know I am a single father to a beautiful little girl. And I am not married because in every relationship that I’ve been in I never can commit fully because i love being isolated and I still need to Howl at the moon if you will..
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Paul Materne : Oh I’ve received a great response! No negative comments. Everyone seems to love it! As im still creating a fan base im getting more and more plays each day and its very exiting and encouraging! I am very blessed and I thank the Lord for everything including plays!
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Paul Materne :Ahhhh I’m a hermit to be honest… so id have to say working in studios. Which is my bedroom! To actually get me on a stage id have to have a crowd of fans that actually want me on the stage. Hahaha
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Paul Materne : I love all types of music but my favorite would have to be just singer/songwriter type stuff kinda like my own music!
Twist Online : Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
Paul Materne : Just having people listen and enjoy! But if God wants to bless me with fame and fortune id be thrilled!
Twist Online : Are you currently working on any other project?
Paul Materne : Well I am just working really hard on this new album called Howl at the Moon!!!
