A conversation with talented artist ‘Daniel’

Daniel is a Salzburg Austria based artist who has been into the music from a very early age. Van Daan is his most recent project. We had a conversation with him recently, that we are sharing with you here.

Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers?
Daniel : Hey, my Name is Daniel, I’m a songwriter and guitarist from Austria (Salzburg) and have been playing in different bands for many years now.
This time I would like to present you my new project ‘Van Daan’.

Twist Online : When did you realize that you should be in music profession?
Daniel : My first musical point of contact was maybe at the age of three or four when I got my first plastic guitar (laughs).
But seriously, my biggest idol was John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and that’s why I started to play the guitar.
After about one year when I started playing this instrument I felt this strong need to write my own songs and deal with my feelings.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release “Savin’ Sign” from your solo project ‘Van Daan’.
Daniel : Well.. the comfortable thing about my own project is to have all the decisions by myself – which can also be quite exhausting, too but I like it this way.
It means I write both – the music and the lyrics – of the songs. So it’s all 100% me.
And my latest song ‘Savin’ Sign’ is about this strong and sometimes scary feeling when you try something new and you want it so badly that you sometimes overpower, you know?
Every good piece of advice just seems to simply bounce off. But sometimes it would be much better to simply let loose and see what’s happening.

Twist Online : What kind of response you are expecting from your release?
Daniel : Honestly? I don’t know at all. I got very kind feedback by some of my closest friends and family but everything else is a big surprise for me.
Of course you write and record music mainly for yourself but it’s nice to know if some other people out there like the track you release as well.

Twist Online : Are you inspired of someone in the music industry?
Daniel : Yeah, for sure. As I just said my biggest idol has been John Frusciante. But I like some other artists in the pop genre as well. For example Anouk, who is an amazing artist from the Netherlands, I appreciate a lot.

Twist Online : What are your future goals as music artist?
Daniel : That’s very simple: To have fun and feel the passion for it. Nothing – really nothing – is worth doing without passion.
But to be not too abstract, I feel like I’ve reached my goal if I receive some nice feedback. This means a lot to me.

Twist Online : What about your next release? Working on anything?
Daniel : For sure! I’m constantly working all the time, ’cause it’s my passion. But as I do – and finance – everything by myself there’s a lot of work and money included.
So I’m planning more step by step and now I’d like to see how people like my latest track.
