Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Paula Johnson : I’m Paula Johnson, a 30 year old singer songwriter currently living in Fort Worth, TX. Outside of music I love to laugh, eat, spend time with fam, and enjoy the outdoors.
Twist Online : You started writing poetry at very young age, was there any kind of inspiration at that time?
Paula Johnson : Naturally I’m a very empathetic person. Empathy is number 3 on my top 5 strengths. I believe most of my inspiration during that time came from internal feelings and expressions about myself, and others I had encountered in life. I always seem to be able to connect with people’s life stories, even if it’s in a movie. I loved being able to take the negative in someone’s life, and flip it to somehow make it positive to where it encourages someone, or brings light to an issue.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recently released single ‘Chase‘?
Paula Johnson : My recent single “Chase: is a part of me. It’s my life, and I believe many others. It speaks to anyone who has ever had a dream, a strong desire to accomplish something in life, and while knowing that there will be challenges along the way, they purpose in their heart, that they will relentlessly “Chase” after that thing or person with every fiber in their being until they see it come to fruition.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project. When it will be released?
Paula Johnson : Yes, I’m currently working a few more songs to complete an EP. I’m looking for it to be released in the first quarter of 2017. So be on the lookout! 😉
Twist Online : Are you inspired by someone in the music industry?
Paula Johnson : I get inspired by lots of indie artist. I have one friend in particular who has really inspired my along the way. I’ve seen him overcome so many challenges in pursuing his music career. Now that he’s in a place where he can actually do music full time, speaks volumes. The perseverance and fortitude that he has inspires and encourages me to continue doing music. I’m also inspired by Jill Scott’s soulfulness and even though my music is different from his, I enjoy Pharrell’s creativity. I love to see artist who aren’t afraid to be different and simply express themselves. It really makes music more fun. Plus, that’s what it’s all about.
Twist Online : Do you need some certain environment, when it comes to writing the songs?
Paula Johnson : No, I can write in the shower, in the car, in the kitchen, anywhere. I feel like God just throws tunes in my head. lol. Not sure why but I get a lot of my music when I’m either in the kitchen, cleaning, or driving. I do enjoy a nice environment however to write in. Nature really inspires me. My mind opens up and I feel free when I’m outdoors. A perfect setting would be at a beach in the early morning, when all is calm and you can see the horizon. Looking at the endless sea reminds that possibilities are truly endless. That alone stirs up something inside of me.
Twist Online : Are you influenced by any particular music genre?
Paula Johnson : Gospel and Contemporary Christian music influence me the most. I love the positive vibes and meanings that come with it. I always want to make music that encourages, inspires, or just simply makes someone smile or laugh. I can always get that when listening to that type of genre. I love the energy in pop music as well. I’m an energetic person so every now and then I have to throw something together that’s a little out of the box.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve as a music artist?
Paula Johnson: One of my goals is to first complete this EP. I would also love to shop some of my music around to other artist, as well as tap into the international business of music.
