An exclusive interview with afrobeat artist Oba Marteenz
Today on our Hot Seat we have oba Marteenz with us. Let’s have a chat with him.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Oba Marteenz : My name is oba Marteenz I’m an afrobeat artist from Nigeria but I’m based in the UK. I started music at a very young age, poetry influenced me alot and this had a very good impact on my music.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Oba Marteenz : I love music a lot and the satisfaction I get from it is unquantifiable. I have admiration for music and my late brother was a very good mentor before he passed. So I feel a burden on my mind every time I’m in a creative state and the only way i can put the talent out is to sing.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release “Shoko”?
Oba Marteenz : Shoko was recorded few months ago I featured my friend Mickail Chase on it. I’m used to using my lives experience to tell a story with my music so people can relate with my journey. Shoko is more like an African praise poetry with emphasis to yorùbá culture and tradition. Mickail Chase used most of his experiences as well so with a UK type beat added to it took shoko to a different level.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Oba Marteenz : My favourite genre is afrobeats and hip hop.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
Oba Marteenz : The best part for me being an artist is to inspire alot of people. I believe an artist is much of a preacher or a messenger conveying positive messages to the World. The recognitions and reward for such sacrifice is invaluable.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Oba Marteenz : Yes my goals for the future is headlining my own show, promoting my music to reach a larger audience. Releasing my album followed with a tour in the coming year.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Oba Marteenz : I’m working on my EP album which is to be launched next year. Brands are speaking about a possible fashion merch which will be announced in due time as well. Few collaboration with other artist on the table. So 2019 is looking favourable already and I can’t wait to share all the details soon so stay tune.
