An Exclusive Interview with Multi-Talented ‘Spellcast’

Spellcast is an passionate independent music producer of Drum & Bass and diverse electronic music. He recently released a song titled “Mononoke” on Soundcloud. We interview him about his life, music and his recent release in particular.

Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Spellcast : This is all new to me cause for many years, it was just a hobby. But I want to live my dream, and my dream is to produce music.
In order to learn the skills for professional music productions and good mastering, it takes a lot of time. My desire for creativity gave me the perseverance to learn everything from the beginning, and everything I know so far about producing, I learned over the years by try and experimenting. Now I’m ready to make it professional.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Spellcast : I was just composing a new piece.  I worked day and night on that song and as it was ready i listened the whole track. My heart was beating so fast and i couldn’t breathe because of all the emotions,
and then the beat drops and I felt the music deep in my heart. I realized how long it’s been since I got into producing music only for myself and truly realizing how much it’s changed and improved my Life.
And it was in that Moment i realized i wanted this for the rest of my life. I want to share these feelings with the world.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ‘Mononoke’?
Spellcast : This song is very special to me. I love the original. The melody is from a soundtrack called “The Legend Of Ashitaka” from the anime “Princess Mononoke”.
It’s my first “Remix” of a song. But actually it’s not really a remix. I’ve completely reconstructed the melody from “The Legend Of Ashitaka” myself, but as I’ve rebuild it, I’ve also changed it a bit. Now it is a Orchestral Drum & Bass song.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Spellcast : The response was very positive so far. The track is only two days old. I hope the people like the song as much as I do.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Spellcast : I do not have much experience with live performance as a producer so far. At the moment I’m happy to make music in studio. Live performances lure me, of course. I had little gigs with my band “Swallow Regret” in the past and i always liked them. I would love to perform live. We will see what the future brings. 🙂

Twist Online : Any particular reasons for going for electronic music?
Spellcast : Well, i tried out many genres over the years. As a teenager I played bass in a hardcore / metal band. Then I have produced Hip Hop beats and composed Classical music. I’ve searched for the right style, but i have realized that i’m love nearly every type of music,  so i looked for a way to combine all of them. I think electronic music has the characteristic of being so incredibly versatile and flexible.
I can compose an epic classical orchestra and combined it with Drum & Bass Beats. I can produce an Hip Hop beat and make an EDM Trap song out of it. The possibilities are endless.

Twist Online : Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
Spellcast : I just want to produce beautiful music.  I’m a perfectionist and I’m very particular about my productions. I won’t be happy with my work until i know that my song could make somebody out there happy too. So, my goal is to get better and better. I want to make something new. Something that touches the soul.

Twist Online : Are you currently working on any other project?
Spellcast : I always work on something new. Mostly to several projects at the same time. At the moment, I’m mainly working on a Chillstep song.

Twist Online : What’s the best way to follow you for updates?
Spellcast : I always upload new music first at soundcloud,  so the best way to stay updated is to follow me there.
