An Exclusive interview with singer & songwriter Corin Gabriella
Today on our Hot Seat we have Corin Gabriella, an American Singer-Songwriter From
Brooklyn, NY. She has recently released the first single titled ‘Brooklyn’ from her 2nd EP “Untitled”. Let’s have a chat with her.
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Corin Gabriella : The official beginning of my professional career as Corin Gabriella the artist began in 2013. I was part of a Rap/Pop group named C3.
Singing on the hooks and servicing the group where I could. With the manager I have nowRichard “Judah” Osborne. Just when everything was about to Pop off with the labels it seemed the group was falling apart, although it seemed like a negative thing but everything happens for a reason. This gave me no other choice than to focus on my own brand and voice as an artist beginning with the songs I had. These initial songs became “The Pain” EP Available at Coringabriella.com.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Corin Gabriella : My inner circle is what really inspired me to get into the music industry. My Family, specifically my older sister Erica, has always pushed me to sing in front of any and everyone and their mama saying “Thatʼs my ticket out the ghetto right there”. As I got older I realized that the dream I had as a young girl was actually possible. That people make money off of their gifts every single day.
Why not me? Meeting Richard really sealed the deal with his belief in me and the music we co-produce.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recently released track ‘Brooklyn’ from EP ‘Untitled’?
Corin Gabriella : Brooklyn is the first single off of my unreleased “Untitled”EP. Itʼs the beginning of me finding my voice as a writer and really showing the elements that make me who I am.
A girl from Brooklyn, NY with a dream. The single is a perfect representation of having pressure of growing up in neighborhood where there is heavy police presence surrounded by what seems to be hopelessness, Yet is home to the great Notorious B.I.G, which lets me know anything is possible. I can use everything Iʼve learned and experienced and turn it into a positive benefit.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Corin Gabriella : The response to Brooklyn is a game changer. Immediately my audience knows exactly where Iʼm coming from. People from my hometown acknowledge me as a voice of the community. I always get compliments about the reggae vibes on the chorus.
Twist Online : You also released the video of the track, it looks great. What was the inspiration behind this video?
Corin Gabriella : The inspiration behind the video was simply to allow the neighborhood to speak for itself. We shot the video right on Fifth Avenue in sunset where you can see the lyrics come to life in real
time. We just wanted to bring the music to life in a real way.
Twist Online : What about the remaining tracks of this EP?
Corin Gabriella : The remaining tracks off of the “Untitled” EP are the siblings of Brooklyn. The production and songwriting were strategically created to go together. They are the representation of my evolution this far as an artist.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Corin Gabriella :I really canʼt choose which attracts me more between the studio and being on stage. In the studio is where I get to get real about what it is Iʼm trying to express to the world. Itʼs where the brain storming and creative juices are flowing. This is where the product is still in its baby form and just an idea. Itʼs an extremely vulnerable and honest place.
The stage is where the ideas come to life. Polished and finished and exact. I try to apply the same amount of vulnerability by free styling a cover or adding a spontaneous riff in the songs that arenʼt on the record. To me the art is in expressing how you really feel whether itʼs beautiful as the honeymoon stage of love or the ugly part of a break up and admitting my faults.
Twist Online : Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
Corin Gabriella : I want to be a big star like Madonna. I want people to hear my music and escape from their present moment. To think about life or whatever it is they want to ponder upon. A moment to
acknowledge the soul and how we feel, and why we feel.
Twist Online : Are you active on social media? What’s the best way to follow you online?
Corin Gabriella : Hit me on my insta handle @Coringabriellax7
