An exclusive interview with talented artist Ero Seagull
We are sharing our recent interview with Ero Seagull, a Greek – Canadian artist based in Athens, Greece.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Ero Seagull : My name is Ero Seagull, I just released my first album Evolution with EMI Universal and it’s a blend of Hip-Hop/Rap and Pop with Rock and Funk elements.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Ero Seagull : I was always playing music. Ever since I can remember. I play the piano since I was 5 y.o. then I got into guitar and drums and music is like my first language. As a teenager my mother got me a DJ set that had a microphone and I would learn lyrics and sing to the songs all the time. Later, in my university Bretton Hall we would participate in each others projects and a friend asked me to sing to his music and that was my first experience with an audience, it gave me an ecstatic feeling singing in front of them and it felt very familiar and it’s when I got inspired to start recording my own music. In 2011 I participated in the contest The Peoples Music Awards and I won the judges’ round with my song Un!Son – Breath Of Life and the fact that the judges shared such good feedback made me think I’m good at it so I decided to pursue my dream.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent Album Evolution?
Ero Seagull : My album was named Evolution for various reasons. One being my evolution as an artist who managed to get into the industry. Another is because I break the patterns in two songs in What’s In A Romeo where I rap as Romeo from Romeo & Juliet and in The Gospel where I rap as Jesus. And last because in My Inner Moses and Conscientious Objector I rap about a better and more evolved world. The album consists of eleven songs, theme wise they all vary and you can’t say they are all one genre. I don’t want to belong in one genre and I don’t want to restrict myself when it comes to my passion, music. I just get inspired to an idea and however it comes naturally I follow. Evolution is an album I worked for twelve months, I have had the honour to work with excellent musicians like Dieselbytes Supreme, Marilena Orfanou (Someone Who Isn’t Me) mrpc (Afrocream) Ekelon (Lips Forensics) Leon Rhymes (Too Many T’s) who has the greatest skill I’ve seen in a rapper and last but not least Daphne BlueBird who has a mesmerising voice. We were committed to give the best results and I’m totally satisfied with the outcome. The album was made with love and it shows.

Twist Online : Any particular track from the album that’s your favorite?
Ero Seagull : That is a hard question. I guess if I had to choose one song out of the album it would be What’s In A Romeo that features Leon Rhymes because lyrically I was super inspired when I wrote it. I believe its concept is very fresh and its sound is truly uplifting. As a fellow musician, Arlo Stock said “it has great energy the kind one can listen to in the morning to motivate if one needs to blow some steam”. We are preparing a video clip for this song with the director Jordan Grant and I’m truly confident it will go well.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Ero Seagull : I have had positive feedback from everyone in my microcosmos and two major radio stations in Athens En Lefko and Athens Voice Radio are playing my songs which means that the album has resonance.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Ero Seagull : I don’t have a favourite to be honest. I love all music. You will find me listening to classical music but you will also find me listening to Osheyack, Tzusing or Pantelidis. My new discovery is Iranian folk music. I just love music and I love discovering new stuff. On my next album I want to have more folk elements. Fun Da Mental has been the influence on this decision.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
Ero Seagull : The creative process. I mean being a music artist is a full time job, but what a job! Your days are filled with music. Your goal is to produce music that speaks to your heart and makes your heart sing. Just being a music artist is the best really, without separating it to parts. You never stop thinking new creative ideas. I can’t think of a better world to exist in.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Ero Seagull : Yes I have. I want to do the presentation of my album and I want this concert to look a million dollars and be the bomb! This will happen after the summer in Athens and after I’ve done that I will start touring in festivals.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Ero Seagull : Well just because I released my first album it doesn’t mean I chill now. As I mentioned earlier, it’s a full time job, now I am recording new songs for my next album.
Twist Online : What’s the best way to follow you online?
Ero Seagull : I guess Instagram because when I have some news I go immediately and share it there. But also through my FB page if one wants to see the most important news. I love my community and I want to keep them updated. They all have been super supportive and it’s what kept me going. Evolution would be just an idea in my head if it wasn’t for my friends.
