Ash Thorn Talks About ASHESANDGOLDUST And Upcoming Projects

ASHESANDGOLDUST is an American Electronica/Synth Pop/Rock band that formed in 2013, featuring artist vocalist/keyboardist/guitarist Ash Thorn. We had a conversation with Ash Thorn about the band and their music.

Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Ash Thorn : Hi everyone, my name is Ash Thorn and I currently reside in Salt Lake City, Utah. I started the band AshesandGoldust about 5 years ago. I remember hearing stories about the music industry and the Industry’s standards and thinking to myself “there has got to be something to bring about the artistry in individual music, other than what sells.” And though every musician would love to sell their music for profit and the ability to live off of their art, the restrictions and stigmatization prevent the real meanings and sounds behind musical art to come to fruition.

Twist Online : What inspired you to form this band?
Ash Thorn : My love and passion for music and the poetry behind words and emotions.

Twist Online : Is there any story behind the name of the band “ASHESANDGOLDUST”?
Ash Thorn : Haha! Ashes was of course taken from my first name and Goldust is a compilation of a few things. Stevie Nicks being one of the main reasons from her song Goldust Woman and Tori Amos for her song Gold Dust. The ethereal meaning behind something that is Goldust appeared magical and meaningful to me.

Twist Online : Our readers would like to know more about the band members and their roles in the band?
Ash Thorn : As of recently I am currently solo but I will be adding more members soon in the future.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release?
Ash Thorn : On a Summer’s Day was released not too long ago and it was actually written as a poem, later adding electronics to the background. Malicedusa was originally titled “Someone Like You,” but for fear of misrepresentation towards the newer Artists that had marketed after me, I decided to call it something that no one had ever heard of. Malicedusa literally has no meaning to it whatsoever, just a random name that I pulled out of a hat.

Twist Online : Performing live or working in studios, what’s your main focus?
Ash Thorn : I am looking forward to performing live, it’s been in the talks for a while now and it will be exciting to finally come face to face with all of the fans. I am currently working in the studio, piecing together my first full length album.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve as a band?
Ash Thorn : To always have fun, follow your heart and never get discouraged with other people’s perceptions of you, as long as you are doing something that you really love to do.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Ash Thorn : Yes I am. I am currently in the studio working on a new project for a full length album, that will have a bit of everything to it. The sky is the limit!
