Christopher Evans from “The Marica Frequency” Band

The Marica Frequency is an alternative indie band founded in 2015 by singer-songwriter Christopher Evans. We are sharing our recent interview with him.

Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your music career.
Christopher Evans :
To be honest with you, I can’t remember at what age I first picked up the guitar, but I think was about eleven. I learned a few tunes (mainly Beatles) and went from there. I had more interest in writing my own songs rather than learning other people’s songs, and that kind of stuck with me.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to launch “The Marica Frequency”?
Christopher Evans :
I’ve been in bands just about all my adult life, and for most of those bands I was the primary songwriter. I just got to the point where I wanted complete control over the music and musicians that performed on it, and that led to me starting The Marica Frequency.

Twist Online : Our readers would like to know about the band members and their roles in the band?
Christopher Evans :
That’s a pretty hard question to answer as the main bulk of the band is constantly changing. Myself and an artist named Marisa Frantz are permanent members, and perform on 99.9% of the songs we release. I also get local musicians I know to help out from time to time, as well as session musicians I’ve worked with over the
years.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent projects?
Christopher Evans :
Our last album was titled ‘Delicate’, and it’s turned out to be our most successful record to date. It took about nine months of solid work to put together, then produce and master, but it does look like it was worth all the hard work.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Christopher Evans : Excellent so far – it’s been through a lot of critic’s hands and all of them have given the album a ‘thumbs up’. We’re actually a little surprised by how positive the response has been from the music scene. We’ve also seen a great response to it on streaming services/online stores as well.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, Working in studios or performing on stage?
Christopher Evans :
Oh definitely working in a studio environment – I used to love performing live but I’m older now, don’t enjoy it as much as I used to. I feel completely at home when I’m in a production setup, and most of my waking hours are spent recording/mixing/producing music.

Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music band?
Christopher Evans
: Many things really, but if I’d have to choose – I’d say the ‘rush’ you experience when a song comes together. In my opinion, the best songs always fall into place with very little effort – they just land in your lap and you just know they are going to work. That’s a great feeling, very addictive.

Twist Online : Any tours/ concerts in near future?
Christopher Evans :
Well, we’re in the middle of a pandemic at the moment, and the world is pretty much on lockdown, so no live gig plans for the near future.

Twist Online : You are working on your 5th Album, can share some details?
Christopher Evans :
I’m not able to share the title of the album yet, but I am able to tell you that it’s slightly ‘bigger’ than Delicate. We’re expanding the orchestras and we’ve introduced yet another new vocalist on certain tracks. I’m very excited about it but we’re only halfway through at the moment. So far everything’s fallen into place with ease.
