Conversation with a talented artist Marcus Christ
Marcus Christ has a passion and love for music since his childhood. Marcus Christ has recorded over 50 songs in the last 5 years, but has published close to 100 songs. We had a conversation with him about his past, his recent encounter with police and his recent release.
Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Marcus Christ : Hi, I’m Marcus Christ! I currently live in Compton California. I was born and raised in Prince George’s County Maryland. I’m a entertainer, and I cater to song writing, performing, and standup. Return of the Beast was my very first commercial release. My next project is a book and music album called “Prince of the Universe.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Marcus Christ : My biggest inspiration as a child to get into music was Michael Jackson. My very first time watching him do the moonwalk was amazing. My whole family was jumping out of their seats. I was also really into Michael Bolton, Whitney Houston, and Prince. Purple Rain was a movie I watched everyday in preschool. Whitney Houston was my childhood crush. I was so hurt when she married Bobby Brown that I almost stopped listening to her music.
Twist Online : What were your feelings when your debut mixtape “Mommy got some problems” created a buzz?
Marcus Christ : Well the single Mommy’s Got Some Problems was pretty popular locally. My friends would ask me to perform the song. I would perform it, but it had a message. My step dad was in prison for conspiracy to sell drugs, but I felt very strongly that he was innocent. So my first verse is about my dad going to prison, and my mom needing to maintain without him.
My last verse was about the day I witnessed a baby being born. Later on I discovered I was not the dad, but I wrote that the day the baby was born Deuce wrote the second verse, and I just told him to talk about world affairs. He did a wonderful job! I haven’t seen him since.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ‘Prince of the Universe’?
Marcus Christ : My latest project Prince of the Universe is a mental release from my time in L.A. County Jail for a car chase. I just internalize everything, and released it verbally on the PotU Album.
I saw a lot of guys reading books in there so I want to write a book they can learn from if they happen to end up in jail. It’s gonna be a autobiography with important things I’ve learned along the way.
Twist Online : What do you like more performing on stage or working in studios?
Marcus Christ : I prefer working in the studio. I can create new projects in the studio. I always enjoyed creating new work opposed to performing old work. Even though I understand most pay comes from performances I’m hoping I can break the mold. I want to have steady album sells before I consider a big live performance.
Twist Online : You have recently been released from jail, What was the issue?
Marcus Christ : Yeah so I’m leaving Jiffy Lube since I had my car inspected for Uber. Some Gardena Police officer made a U turn and chased me. I decided I wasn’t pulling over until I got home. When I got home 5 mins later I had like 20 cops and a helicopter at my house. So now I’m on probation, and my license is probably suspended. I haven’t checked yet, cause I don’t want to know.
Twist Online : Are you influenced by any particular music genre?
Marcus Christ : I’m actually influenced by a mixture of genres. Mostly Hip-hop, with soft or pop rock, some R&B, and a gospel twist. I just make music that I would listen to. I don’t think of the genre when I begin the writing process.
I would say that if a song is a hit I’m going to listen. Aerosmith, Run DMC, Eminem, Nas, Jay z, Tupac, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Marvin Sapp, Kirk Franklin, and Kanye West are artist I usually listen to daily.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve as a music artist?
Marcus Christ : My main goal as an artist is to make the realest art I possibly can. I want my music to be unapologetic realistic. I don’t know if I want it to be offensive, but some people take offense to the truth.
I want to sell 100,000 copies on a limited budget. I wish talent sold records, but that is not always the case. So from a business aspect I just want to sell more units to widen my appeal.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Marcus Christ : I’m currently writing my autobiography “Prince of the Universe”. I’ve only finished chapter one, and I want to write a least ten chapters. So well see what happens, but I’m happy with the quality of the book thus far.
Also the musical album Prince of the Universe is almost done. It’s gonna have some bonus tracks like “Not Tha Same”, “Athlete”, “She Just Wants The Money”, and “Wait A Minute”. My homies DeeDoggThaHogg and Jester will be on this new album. We are also introducing Tha Infamous Suga Foot for a ladies perspective.
