Conversation with a talented songwriter Maddie
We are sharing with here our recent conversation with a very talented and skilled songwriter Maddie.
Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Maddie : I’m a Swedish songwriter and play mainly guitar but since I also study music at the university I also play other instruments like keyboard and ukulele. I live outside Stockholm and try to engage as much in the musician surrounding here. I also do some improvisation theater and like to combine these.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Maddie : I think I always wanted to do something within music. But around 14 I chose to do sports for a while and when I came back I just played (Performed” It was first when I started a Sheffield songwriting short course (Before these studies) that I Realize that’s what I wanted. I love to tell stories both with my lyrics but also with music. I like to, as I do in ‘impro* take people to a place and make them feel it. I also work within education and where others love to have look at me”-spotlight I really love to make ‘you’ look good. So the best is when I composed and written something and somebody takes it ine and shines. I Know I did it but overall spotlight is on him/her.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent work?
Maddie : Right now I’m trying to make 2 albums for this autumn. One is instrumental (Anxiously awaiting) and one a story written in music about this forsaken town. (Black Fallen Angel). There will be a mix with a story were every track shows a part of the town or the characters living there and some role play with different voice-acting.
Twist Online : Do you follow the instructions of the artists you write for? or follow your instincts and heart in writing ?
Maddie : You can not write solo. You need to feel the artist. Who is he/she? Of course its a little bit of mind-reading course you picture what the artist can/deliver. I would not do a growling piece for a pop-singer. And I also want the artist to feel comfortable about what he is about to tell us. He needs to feel the music, and become it. SO of course I listen to him/her. It always take two to tango.
Twist Online : Do you need a certain kind of environment to write songs?
Maddie : Nope. But I need my guitar (or another instrument) I don’t like to write just lyrics without feeling the music and context I write about.
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Maddie : Medieval ballads, and storytelling kind of rock and folk. I love the Nordic ballads but my primary role model is Tom Waits. His voices and characters and performances are unique in a way that I really like and also feel comfortable performing in.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve as a writer?
Maddie : Don’t stop developing myself. The day I dont feel the hunger to develop myself I would do something else.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new projects?
Maddie : Right now on the albums and mainly the Black Fallen Angel but also with a very cool Rock-dude for this summer. But that’s a secret and will be revealed through my media channels later on:)
