Conversation with Jason from Azwel band
We are sharing our recent interview with Jason from Azwel band.
Twist Online : First of all please tell us about the start of your music career.
Jason: I’ve always had this project going ever since I learned to play an instrument. The name was still there but slightly different. Once I got the proper recording gear, that’s when it really began.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to launch the Azwel Band?
Jason: It was always important to be able to play the songs live. I had done a few acoustic gigs here and there but a big part of the sound is in the arrangements and the sound of a full band. Acoustic shows were too one dimensional.
Twist Online : Our readers would like to know about the band members and their roles in the band ?
Jason: Joe(guitar) Gregg (bass) John(drums) and once in a while Randy joins on 2nd keys. He doesn’t live around here anymore but will often visit. Everyone lends some backing vocals too.
Twist Online : Tell us about your upcoming album ‘Phantasmagoria‘?
Jason:It was written and recorded in just over a month. I haven’t really completed an album that way in over 10 years. Most songs are piano, string, or acoustic based. There aren’t any rock songs this time. Actually, I think this album has the least guitar of any album I’ve made. Every album is sort a reaction to the previous one. In that case, I’m sure the next album will be all distorted guitar…who knows.
Twist Online : Any particular track(s) of the album that’s your favorite?
Jason: “By the Daintree River” is one of my favorite recordings so that’s why it is track 1. I also like “In Disbelief” a lot. I really do like each song equally though. They all come together really well. The albums strength is in its cohesivenss. You can listen to it straight through very easily.
Twist Online : What kind of response you are expecting from the release?
Jason:I only made the announcement on facebook a few days ago. Since the last album got downloaded so much, hopefully this will do as well. It’ll cost a few dollars this time, rather than the ‘name your own price’ thing that i’ve been doing forever.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Jason:Both are important but the studio is always the most important because that’s where the song is born and it’s the version everyone knows.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Jason:The same for any album I suppose. To get the music out there. It’s always important to continue producing music.
Twist Online : Any plans of tours/concerts for promotion of this album?
Jason:We’re taking it one step at a time now. The first step is typical PR campaigning and getting the album/singles out. The idea of a planned tour is still up in the air.
