Conversation with songwriter & guitarist Blackthorn Blossom
Today on our Hot Seat we have a talented musician and songwriter Blackthorn Blossom with us. Let’s have a chat with him.
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your music career.
Blackthorn Blossom : I used to play the bass in bands for some twenty years, different styles and different stages, with German and English lyrics. After 2008 when the last band split, I focussed more on my Gospel choir with singing and live recording. After almost ten years of not touching my instruments, I started during Christmas vacations 2018 to record the first song “In a News World”, which went surprisingly well. From then on, I wrote one song after the other, constantly increasing my abilities in writing, recording and mixing.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Blackthorn Blossom : It was part of natural process – writing songs, sharing them with others, getting feedback, starting campaigns via fiverr. The more You get experienced, the more You are interested in sharing with others and making it big.
Twist Online : Your music career is full of ups and downs, but you didn’t give up music, what was the main motivation sticking to the music?
Blackthorn Blossom : Music has always been a large part of myself – was it strumming the guitar in youth groups, playing in bands, singing in the choir, recording and mixing. For me it is the island where I draw back, when things are running not so well and it is the source of inspiration and creativity, that I can also use in my job. Music is the machine fuel I am running with.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent projects?
Blackthorn Blossom : Currently I have some songs, that are ready made and that wait for friends either to do the vocals or play some additional guitar solo. Unfortunately during the Corona crisis, this is a little bit slowed down. Secondly, I started a trial with choir music. A first song is currently in “quality assurance” from my choir conductor – it is part of a Passion Cycle, I plan to do. As soon as the song is approved, we will test it with the choir. During the Corona crisis we will try new formats with distributed recording and central mixing – let’s see, how this develops.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, Working in studios or performing on stage?
Blackthorn Blossom : I used to play a lot on stages and I really liked it. With my current songs, I really hesitate to set a band together, by now I more stick to writing song, making them good and include other musicians with single tasks. Live performing is just with the choir by now.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
Blackthorn Blossom : With the choir, it’s the developing the sound together, listen to each other and create something that moves me, the group and the audience. With my own music, it is the process of creation, starting somewhere and see how it develops. And in the end to share the finished song with others.
Twist Online : What’s up next? You would be having a test run with German Lyrics or you are gonna stick with it?
Blackthorn Blossom : In German it is not easy to write lyrics that do not sound like cheap pop music. If you want to be artistic, you really have to play with the words. But good lyrics in German are strong, stronger than in other languages I know. Sure there will be also English lyrics in the future, but German is the language I work with by now.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Blackthorn Blossom : I am constantly working on projects. There are some in the pipeline to be finished, but I hope to keep the delivery frequency with one song per month.
