Dan Tha Jeweler talks about his life and music

Today on our Hot Seat we have Dan Tha Jeweler. Who released his first official album “Blessed” on July 29 and it is available on all streaming services. Dan came back to the music scene last year changing his name from YOMP to Dan Tha Jeweler. Lets have a chat with him.

Twist Online : First Tell us a little about the starting of your music career.
Dan Tha Jeweler : I have played around with music for most of my life. I started when I was nine years old by singing over popular songs terribly off tune, high-pitched, and with a speech impediment. It was awful, but I enjoyed doing it. I got into the production aspect and by the time I was 18 I was producing music with my friends, and that’s how I got into the music scene.

Twist Online : Any reason behind Changing your name from YOMP to Dan Tha Jeweler?
Dan Tha Jeweler : YOMP was a childhood nickname, but when I was recording under that name it was an entirely different vibe than what I am doing now. I got fed up and quit music for a year and a half. The band members from Kyle Thornton & The Company convinced me to come back and make music again. They kept calling me Dan Tha Jeweler because I was wearing different necklaces each day I saw them and I am half Jewish, so I found it funny and decided to run with it.

Twist Online : You recently released your first official album “Blessed”. do tell us more about that?
Dan Tha Jeweler : After my first mixtape last year, I was just recording and seeing how it went. I had an idea of calling it Blessed after like a month, but I had a bunch of different variations of the album. I finally found the calm, summer like feel that you’ll find on this project.  It’s been dope because everyone who is on this project is a friend of mine.

Twist Online : Your album is getting a very good response. You must be excited about that?
Dan Tha Jeweler : I couldn’t be anymore happy about it than I am now, people are streaming it, buying it. I am just happy that people are listening. I wanted to get an album on Tidal when Jay Z bought it, so now I’ve finally done it! It’s just a bonus that people are responding so positively about it.

Twist Online : Has this album got something different like your Mixtape last year had Emojis Titles?
Dan Tha Jeweler : When I was making 100, I started promoting it before I was finished. By the time it was time to be released, I realized that no streaming service had the capability to have emojis as titles, so I had to number the tracks on Soundcloud with the emojis as pictures. So this time around I decided to make better music in order to compensate for a more traditional release.

Twist Online : What’s your music genre?
Dan Tha Jeweler : I consider it like summer time rap/ pop. I don’t really like considering it hip hop because it is definitely a lot more light hearted. I guess there are elements of trip hop in there.

Twist Online : What are your future goals?
Dan Tha Jeweler :  I just want to keep creating more. Music wise I haven’t worked with all the artists that I would like to yet, so I just want to keep making music with my friends and hoping that people enjoy it.

Twist Online : You also got clothing line and design company. How do you manage it all?
Dan Tha Jeweler : Young Kings RVA is what keeps me who I am. It is a clothing and design firm. I usually cycle between clothing design and music recording, so for a few months I create a bunch of designs for clothes then pick a select few that are made then release that. Between the artwork for clothes and my music, people started coming to me for logos, album arts, promotional materials, etc. Basically I’m always designing and recording.

Twist Online : Are you on Social Media? Your fans would love to follow you.
Dan Tha Jeweler : Yeah, everything is the same: @danthajeweler. I’m on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.
