Derek Holley talks about his band dress code and EP “Reaction”

Today on our Hot Seat we have Derek Holley. Lets have a chat with him.

Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Derek Holley : I’m Derek Holley from Dayton, Ohio USA and I perform dance music as the band name “Dress Code”

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Derek Holley : I got into music at an early age. It was just something that caught and held my attention. I used to have toy instruments as a kid, and wanted to play real ones when I got older. I started on the drums, then went to guitar and bass, and later got into learning songwriting and production using software and electronic instruments.

Twist Online : You co-founded band “Dress Code“. How was your experience with the band. And what made you go solo?
Derek Holley: The original version of Dress Code was fun. It was exciting recording and releasing our first album, but the breakup happened suddenly and I wanted to keep going.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recently released EP “Reaction”?
Derek Holley : “Reaction” is a 5-song EP of electro-house style dance music with rock and funk influences. I’ve always been a fan of these different kinds of music (dance, rock, and funk) and wanted to show that on the EP.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Derek Holley : Response has been great so far. The EP songs have been featured on dance music radio shows and stations, and I’ve been getting more fan interaction.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Derek Holley : There are things I like about both. In a live show, I like the instant response and the energy of the audience. In studio work, I like the creative process of writing the lyrics and then recording the different sounds and instruments.

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Derek Holley : It’s hard to pick just one genre for me, but I’m usually into rock, dance, and/or funk.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Derek Holley : Yes, the goal right now is to promote the EP, and have more people find out about it and about Dress Code.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Derek Holley : I’m always practicing playing instruments and thinking about new ideas. It’s all a work in progress
