DJ & Producer Joe Mesmar talks about his Music journey
Today on our Hot Seat we have a talented Canadian underground DJ & Producer Joe Mesmar who has toured throughout the world during shows in dozens of countries. So let’s meet one of the hottest rising talent in the music industry.
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your music career.
Joe Mesmar : Music has always been my passion, I used to be a drummer in a “band” back in High school before getting myself into the music industry. After I moved to Montreal, I decided to learn how to DJ. So I bought few CDJs and a mixer, bought traktor full package, then started messing around the decks at home. I used to spend so many hours daily. I used to love Electro music back then (AKA EDM music in today’s world). Then I started applying to open for residents at many clubs.
After a year of just being a DJ. I discovered that one of my friends was giving Ableton courses, how to master Ableton & how to build a track. I took & finished his courses and then it hit me with the “I finally found what i love”.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Joe Mesmar : My career officially started when I won the mighty Josh Wink’s Remix Beatport Contest. Before that, before that, i used to just be a bedroom producer producing beats for fun. It was just a hobby until i got picked as one of the winners. Then i knew I had big potential, and went all in.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ?
Joe Mesmar : Ahhh yes! My last one was a Remix i did for Sony Music. I remixed Nigel Stanford’s track “Automatica”. The original itself reached around 13M views. The original Video got an Award as well by Vodafone music awards.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Joe Mesmar : Not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting to get so many positive feedback, as Sony doesn’t usually mess around in the underground scene, but they chose to release my remix anyways! This was a big booster for me. And i am so happy to have my name attached to them. The remix also got quite a lot of exposure, and features on Spotify and Premieres on Music sites. I am SUPER grateful for these moments.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, Working in studios or performing on stage?
Joe Mesmar : Performing on stage. I mean… What’s a better feeling than performing in front of thousands of people dancing to your music? the best feeling for me is to see people coming up to me and asking for pictures. It’s a great joy for me. It’s one of a big signs that tells you “You’re doing a great job, keep it up!”
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music producer?
Joe Mesmar : You get to produce without limitations, you produce your own music. You’re the creator.

Twist Online : What was the motivation behind launching your own label?
Joe Mesmar : Actually, I didn’t wanted to start a label because i was only focusing on my tours, getting future gigs, and my production. But then, my ex-manager forced me to launch my own label. Not gonna lie, i don’t regret it.. At all! Your label is like your baby or little child that needs to be taken care of and fed with good music. I watch my label grow as I grow.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Joe Mesmar : Always! I finish ones, and then I start new ones. One thing about me is that I don’t reveal anything until it’s time to be revealed 🙂
Twist Online : How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Joe Mesmar : Well, I produce depending on my mood, if I’m Sad, it’s sad sounding Techno, If i am angry, It’s definitely sounding aggressive Techno. And so on.. I like to be diverse and let my mood play a role. Your music should tell a story, so it’s telling mine.
Twist Online : If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Joe Mesmar : The Ego & hate that’s been going on lately with artists once they reach a certain level of “fame”.
