French artist Aurelien David talks about his music project “Adon Olam”

Today on our Hot Seat we have a talented singer and piano player Aurelien David with us. Let’s have a chat with him.

Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Aurelien David :
My name is Aurelien David. I am a French recording artist, singer and piano player living and working in Germany, France and Israel, releasing my first big music project “Adon Olam”. I also own and manage a company for international development cooperation, traveling around the world working for government institutions, helping to realize sustainable projects.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Aurelien David :
I have been playing the piano at the age of 7, with classical training by renowned international concert pianists and singers. At 16, I decided to study engineering, politics and business instead of a music career, and set out on a successful business career instead. But I had been dreaming about reconnecting with my first passion by producing my own music for a long time, and then in 2018, inspired and surrounded by great people, I finally decided to launch my own label and realize a project that is very important to me, the album “Adon Olam”.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release Adon Olam?
Aurelien David :
The basis is ancient Hebrew melodies and lyrics that are usually played during traditional Jewish festivities. I have reinterpreted these traditional songs for the piano. And sing the original lyrics, but in a modern way as pop ballads, and with a French accent… The result is a mixture between poetry, prayer and classical pop music. The idea is to transform traditional Hebrew music culture into something modern, accessible to all, especially the people that often have no interest in the „old stuff“.

Twist Online : Any particular track from the Album that’s your favorite?
Aurelien David :
I love all of them, but my first track has a special meaning to me. It was especially emotional, not only because it was the first one, but also because I was undergoing a difficult time in my life and I think you can really feel the genuine sorrow in the song.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Aurelien David :
It has been quite amazing. It seems to really touch something in a lot of people, even if they can’t all understand the lyrics. They can connect to the timeless motives, melodies and deep feelings Hebrew music expresses, I believe it touches something universal. Of course, I was prepared that some people may feel a bit shocked or find it inappropriate to transform traditional Hebrew music into pop culture, which is okay, I wanted to radically break down all boundaries between religions, music styles, languages, the old and the new. But so far, the positive response has prevailed.

Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
Aurelien David :
You can be as brave and irreverent as you want to be. Because it is art, right?! And of course the fast cars and beautiful people 😉 Just kidding 😉

Twist Online : What do you like to do in free time?
Aurelien David :
I almost have no free time, but sports, meeting friends and running with my dog.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Aurelien David :
The sky is the limit. I would like people to feel free and completely connected to themselves when they hear my music. And I would like very many people to connect to my music, of course.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Aurelien David :
Yes I am. I am currently recording my next singles, building up to my first album, working on my music music videos concept.

Twist Online : Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Aurelien David :
Be brave. Don’t wait till tomorrow to realize your dreams, do it now.

Twist Online : What’s the best way to follow you online?
Aurelien David :
Instagram, facebook and my website. www.aurelien-david.com
