Interview With A Passionate and Stylish Artist “Dasha”
We recently interviewed a very talented artist Dasha. Known for her role in a season of Tyler Perry”s tv series “The Haves and the Have nots’ Dasha is set to release her debut album “The Howard Roark Project”
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional?
Dasha : I guess my career started professionally shortly after graduating from UCLA. I started working in the lab with my still producer Rob Deez and started working heavily with a wedding band every week. It was the first time that I was getting paid to actually do what I love. The hosting an acting started a while after.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you as an artist growing up?
Dasha : I’ve had many influences some being Mahalia Jackson, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and then when I got to college I was heavily influenced by Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan and the list goes on. I can find inspiration or influence and almost every artists that I listen to.
Twist Online : You are set to release your debut Album “The Howard Roark Project”. Tell us about that?
Dasha : Yes I am releasing the Howard Roark Project on October 4th and I’m really excited about it. This is somewhat of a protest against what the industry has tried to force me into all these years. It is what I wanted to be; nothing more, nothing less. The title was inspired by a lead character from The Fountainhead.
Twist Online : You debut song “LOVING YOU” from the upcoming album has received exceptional response. You must be excited about that?
Dasha : yes. It was kind of overwhelming. But I’m very excited and happy to hear that people are ready for something like me. It’s hard to be in this business and constantly be rejected, constantly be told that you’re not good enough, or that your music is not right for the industry right now. So hearing people here in the US and in other countries even tell me that they stayed up all night listening to my song is a big f-you to anybody who’s ever told me that I couldn’t. And for that I’m grateful.
Twist Online : Your role in Tyler Perry”s tv series “The Haves and the Have nots” was appreciated. Are you working on any other project?
Dasha : Yes working with Tyler Perry was a lot of fun and a blessing because I learned so much in such a short period of time. I am doing my talk show ,The Divah Diaries, which will start mid September every Tuesday. But I am in talks right now about taking The Divah Diaries and making it into a web series. But that will be further down the line as you could see my plate is already full and I can only do so much.
Twist Online : What is your favorite music genre?
Dasha : I guess I would be a R&B hip-hop Jazz head. I don’t think I necessarily have a favorite genre as much as I have a favorite time period. And for me that would be the 90s the 70s.
Twist Online : What is the biggest achievement in your career so far?
Dasha : honestly, not giving up and going back home. You’d be surprised at how many people will come to LA and have to go back at some point. So I’m just grateful and proud of the fact that it’s been 11 years and despite the downs and several ups, I have managed to find a way to survive. I think my greatest accomplishments are ahead of me.
Twist Online : What are your future goals as a music artist?
Dasha : I hope that musically I can create a space where we can get back to accepting individualism an artist. My goal is to rebirth the idea that it’s okay to be unique musically, it’s okay if you’re not a perfect size 2, It’s okay if you don’t dance as long as what you do is exceptional.
Twist Online : How much active you are on social media ? What’s the best way to follow you?
Dasha : I am very active. Social media is a really awesome way for me to talk to people who listen to my music or who have advised they might want. I would say Instagram is the best way to link up. Follow me at @TheDivineDivah
