Interview with American soul/ R&B songwriter EE Beyond
We recently interviewed EE Beyond, also known as Elaine Faye, an American soul/ R&B songwriter and performer based in Los Angeles California.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
EE Beyond : Hello! I am EE Beyond
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
EE Beyond : My late mother inspired me to sing. She had a beautiful voice and simply just loved to open her mouth and let out beautiful melodies. I started playing guitar so I had a way to accompany the songs I was writing. And I started writing really to deal with the passing of my mother and some other hard times during my youth.
Twist Online : Any particular reasons for quitting the band? How do you feel now, performing solo?
EE Beyond : The broke up really because of communication issues and I think because everyone was ready for something new in their lives and the band took up a very large portion of our lives. I miss it still… its been about 2 years now since we broke up but I believe everything happens for a reason and I love my new project as well as the freedom that comes from decisions being made by one person as opposed to five.
Twist Online : Tell us about your upcoming EP ‘Water Color Lies’ ?
EE Beyond :
This EP really comes out of some frustration I’ve been dealing with of late. Frustrations with the government, frustrations with income inequality and the so called “American Dream” and personal frustrations with self and relationships. The title Water Color Lies, basically means “pretty lies”. And the idea is that I or we as a particular group of people are so enveloped in them it’s hard to see them for what they are… untruths.
Twist Online : What kind of response you are expecting from the release?
EE Beyond : Expecting? Nothing really big. Hoping for a big splash but realistically this is my first release of this project so nothing to crazy. I imagine I’ll garner enough press to maybe make my next release hit a bit harder. Also, they record is not really radio. Is radio friendly on the ear but it definitely doesn’t have those kind of pop vibes. But I expect it’ll gain some attention in the Indie/ Neo-soul/ Soul community
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
EE Beyond : Performing! I hate how meticulous everything has to be in the studio. It takes the magic away a bit. I always love the finished product though.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
EE Beyond : I would love to get a few notable press features and possibly pick up a few great opening spots show wise. Other then that, for the time being my goal is no matter what, to stay true to the music inside of me. And honestly if I do that, I think everything will fall into place.
