Interview with DJ Jounce

We are sharing our recent interview with talented and inspiring DJ Jounce.

Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.

DJ Jounce : Hello and thanks for having me.  I’m an electronic dance music producer and DJ based in Los Angeles.  I go by Jounce and I make loud dance music.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?

DJ Jounce : I guess there was no person or specific event that inspired me.  It was just a burning desire from within. I’ve always loved music and grew up playing instruments in bands.  I had the typical 9-5 job, but I knew my passion was in music so I took the leap and haven’t looked back. Some may see pics and videos from past tours or shows and think it’s all fun and games, but there’s a lot of work that goes into everything.  If I didn’t love music so much, this would never work.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent project Hit the Floor?

DJ Jounce : I’m always working on music and have a lot of tracks coming.  I recently got signed to 50/50 Global Muzik (Sony BMG) and thought this would be a solid first single.  I’m told I have a unique sound because my productions often blend in different genres. Since I love parties, clubs and festivals, I wanted to write something that could work in any of those settings.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?

DJ Jounce : We’ve gotten some nice, positive feedback from blogs, DJs and other industry folks.  Some said it’s a little heavy or not commercial enough, but I didn’t produce this for a particular singer named Justin.  I spun “Hit the Floor” at Coachella on the KROQ stage and got a good response.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?

DJ Jounce : Honestly, if I had to pick between DJ’ing or producing, it would be the later.  I absolutely love the creative process and actually producing something from scratch.  Don’t get me wrong, DJ’ing is a lot of fun. But for me, it’s far more fulfilling as an artist to make the art vs. showcase it.

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?

DJ Jounce :  Hmmm, that’s a tough one since my preferences are all over the map.  Just like with movies, I’m not really genre-specific but can enjoy it if something is well written, performed and produced.  I listen to rock, house, hip hop, Latin beats, classical, jazz … basically everything except for country. Nothing against it.  I just didn’t really grow up with it. If you’re asking about what I produce, it’s mostly a blend of future house and electro with some influences from big room, trance and trap.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?

DJ Jounce : Oh yeah, you got to, right?  I set yearly goals and break them down into months and weeks to keep me on track.  This year, I’m really focused on studio work and putting out original and remix tracks every month.  In the near future, I plan to open an events venue with some partners. Got some other projects in the works that I can’t announce yet but will soon.  I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love so I want to make the most of it.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?

DJ Jounce :  As I mentioned, I’ve got a lot of new music coming.  It’s not just originals and remixes, but I have collaborations with Vion Konger (wiz kid producer from Russia) and Alec Bryar (owner of Amsterdam’s Most Wanted radio show).  The label’s been great and I’m really excited to drop more tunes. We’re just getting started! Follow me @djJounce for all my socials or www.djJounce.com.

Thank you
