Interview with hip hop artist Royce Ripken
We recently interviewed Royce Ripken, also known as “Supastaxx”, a hip hop artist from Maryland (USA-eastcoast). Sharing it with our readers here.
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Royce Ripken : I started as a freestyle artist, just wanting to do what I heard on the radio. It wasn’t until my older cousin advised me to take my craft to the next level, which was writing and recording. I was ghostwriting by age 14 (and still do for a fee, haha!) 14 years of writing, recording & perfecting my passion.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Royce Ripken : Funny thing, Michael Jackson actually got me interested in music, imitating his dance moves, once I heard Tupac, I felt like it was my calling!
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release?
Royce Ripken : My recent release “Clostraphobic” [claustrophobic] was just released on iTunes a few weeks ago, is basically a song about dealing with the pressures and stress of life, and how you can feel like you’re running out of space & resources.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received so far?
Royce Ripken : The response has been great, listeners are really connecting and able to relate to the song, and the story behind it.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Royce Ripken : At first, I was a studio junkie, never wanting to leave, but nothing compares to performing, feeling that energy from the crowd, seeing the expressions, feeling the vibes, it’s unmatched!
Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Royce Ripken : My favorite genre will always be hip hop! But I have love for good music period! Especially the oldies, and soulful classics.
Twist Online : Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
Royce Ripken : My target is very simple, deliver good, relatable music, and hopefully connect with fans to let them know that whatever they’re going thru, they are not alone. And hopefully my stories can help them thru their battles!
Twist Online : Are you currently working on any other project?
Royce Ripken : Yes, I am currently working on my debut album entitled “Home Run Ripken” which will be released on 4/20/18!
