Interview with Kattequila music band
We are sharing our recent interview with Kattequila music band.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers?
Kattequila : Hello, I’m JFK ”The Babe” Kallimanu and I play lead guitar in the Surf Rock band Kattequila.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to launch your band ‘Kattequila’.
Kattequila : The waves, the surf and the ocean.
Twist Online : Our readers would like to know your band members and their roles in the band?
Kattequila : We are a four people in the band.Haruki “Hurricane” Hanako on drums, Betty Wahine Mikazuki on the bass and the other guitar shredder is Nami “Waves” Sango. And then me of course.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recently released debut EP “Sharks In My Blood” ?
Kattequila : Sharks in My Blood is our debut EP and was recorded live in Big Bubba Coral’s Surf Chack down at Suicides Beach (our local surf spot) here in Naha City Okinawa Japan where we all live. The record company that signed us is Walkbay Productions.
The Music is a tribute and a soundtrack to all the fearless surfers who rides the roaring waves over deadly reefs or just smoking weed on the beach. The sound is distinguished by heavy reverb-drenched electric guitars played to evoke the sound of crashing waves. Just like surf music first sounded back in the early 1960’s era.
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Kattequila : Only positive so far. But the EP was released on July 24th so we have not had time to get so much hate yet. Haha but to be honest.
People seem to appreciate our sound. The goal was to make it sound like the recordings of surf music did in the early 1960s.
A pretty LoFi quality but still with a lot of feeling. It should sound like when you ride a big wave. We think we have succeeded well with that.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, Working in studios or performing on stage?
Kattequila : Playing live beats working in the studio every day of the week. However, we recorded our EP live here in Okinawa on a local Surf Chack where we usually hang out because we wanted to get the right nerve in the sound. So we’ve never really been in a “real” studio with Kattequila.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music band?
Kattequila : Friends and love. It’s that simple for me.
Twist Online : Have you set any goals to achieve?
Kattequila : To have fun and to never stop looking for the perfect wave. We are all surfers in the band so that is always the goal we strive for.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Kattequila : Right now we just want to enjoy that this EP has finally become a reality and surf as much as we can before the sharks come back to the waves in a few months. PS. The band name Kattequila is a combination an a word play with our two favorite things in the world, Cats and Tequila.
