Interview with Marques Morrison, CEO OF Dope Hitz Entertainment

We are sharing our recent interview with Marques Morrison, CEO OF Dope Hitz Entertainment (Trenton, N.J.)

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to launch Dope Hitz Entertainment?
Marques Morrison :
I was definitely inspired watching the rise of Puff Daddy & Bad Boy Entertainment in the late 90’s. Bad Boy took hip hop music to the mainstream and paved the way for a lot of future money to be made in the hip industry.

Twist Online : How many artists do you have on your current roster ?
Marques Morrison :
We’ve had as many 5 soloists and 2 groups, but now we are down to 3 soloists and 1 group. We’ve had a brief taste of success over the last 2 years and that has definitely opened doors for us but at the end of the day, we’re still just a small indie label with a small indie budget.

Twist Online : What kind of responses are u getting from your most current release?
Marques Morrison :
We have a 4 man live band by the name of “Sawyer” releasing their single “Down Motown.” soon. All their reviews have been awesome. So we’re very excited about this project. The EP is called “Soul City Live” and you can check them out @
Ria Adams ( definitely put us on the map in 2017, when her 2 lead singles both landed on the Digital DJ Pool Top-50 Pop Singles Chart. We just found out yesterday that “Another Boy” peaked as high as #4 and “Lucy” peaked at #16. We were the only independent in the Top-50. Big time names such as Chainsmokers, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Trey Songz, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars & Ed Sheeran dominated the chart. And we had 2 songs in the Top-50 for 2 months! She has now moved on to Warner Music Canada, and we wish her the best.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the releases?
Marques Morrison :
Sawyer has received the best reviews I’ve ever seen. Take a look for yourself @
Great reviews all the way around, check’em out on their website.

Twist Online : What music genres do you have now at Dope Hitz?
Marques Morrison :
Yes, we started in 2016 as a Hip-Hop indie label and now we’ve added Pop & R&B/Soul artists to our catalog.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Marques Morrison :
Short term: We want to hit a Billboard Top-100 by the end of the year. We’ve hit most of the indie charts and a few mainstream Top-40 & Top-50 but the Billboard Chart has eluded us so far. Long Term: I just want to see us expand and have the ability to sign and develop as many artists as we want. while pumping out great music for the next 20 years.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new projects?
Marques Morrison :
We’re always looking for new talent but right now our team is focused on promo/marketing plan for Sawyer.

Twist Online : Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Marques Morrison :
Thank you to all our fans and we promise to not stop making great music! Peace
