Interview with multi-talented artist Empath

This week in our interview section we will have a multi-talented artist Empath.

Empath is a NY- Based Songwriter, Rapper, Singer, Record Producer, and Aspiring Artist. At only 17 years old, the young music-maker has already released 21 original compositions within the span of a year, and he’s not showing any signs of slowing down. In that timespan, he’s accumulated over 15,600 plays on Soundcloud. For 2018, he’s keeping his goals short and sweet: more music and more visuals! His current projects in progress include a music video for his song “Bravado” (off his “Topic of Discussion” mixtape) and of course, creating the best music he can!

Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional
Empath : I technically came into the “music world” on 3/2/17, but I had been working long before then. 3/2/17 was the date I dropped my  first project, a mini-EP called “Reflection”. I wrote my first full  official song back in June 2015. I was 14. I’m 17 now. After that first song, I just kept writing and eventually worked up the confidence to make a Soundcloud profile and start officially releasing music.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Empath : Myself. Music is my primary passion, so I’m just following it for as long as I enjoy it. It’s pretty simple, nothing fancy. Some lyrics popped into my head, I picked up a pen, and here I am now. I actually consider myself a songwriter primarily.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release?
Empath : I just released a new song in Febuary called “LEVEL UP!”.
It’s a raw trap / hard trap collaboration with this DJ/producer who was introduced to me through a mutual friend of ours. His name is Shinsei and he’s super talented. I’ve only spoken to him through the
internet though. Never met him. The song is definitely a new direction for me.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Empath : I mean over 400 plays in less than a month doesn’t seem to shabby to me. Considering the resources that I have (I’m a one man team, no label) and also the fact that I can’t promote my brand 24/7  cuz I’m still in school and have many other commitments, over 400 streams is amazing to me! I’m so grateful for the love. Keep streaming “LEVEL UP!” peeps! It’s only on Soundcloud!

Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Empath : Since I’ve technically been out in the industry for only about a year, I’ve never actually performed onstage as “Empath” but that’s legit one of my goals this year. So as of now, working in the studio!

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Empath : Surprisingly even though most of my music is expressed through rapping, I mostly listen to contemporary R&B. R&B is my favorite genre. I also love alternative forms of pop, like synth pop.
I don’t really dig a lot of today’s rappers, besides like lil skies, Drake and lil uzi and a few others. I tend to stick to the classics (Biggie, J Cole, Eric B & Rakim, the Fugees).

Twist Online : Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
Empath : I don’t wanna say a lot of them cuz I don’t wanna have it in writing but then I let myself down. Honestly, I just wanna support myself only with music and do it full time as my job; that’s my dream. It’s always been about the art, first and foremost. My highest goal is to win the EGOT. I am not putting limits on myself.

Twist Online : Are you currently working on any other project?
Empath : I’m currently stitching together my first music video for my song “Bravado”, which is one of my favorite songs off my debut mixtape, “Topic of Discussion”. That’s my M.O now. I’m also prepping
my debut single because I actually haven’t released one yet! It’s still winter so the two songs I’m choosing between fit the mood. They’re both vulnerable, sad songs. One is called, “overthinkin’ bout
you” and the other is “SAVEMYSOUL”. Both are amazing records, so I just gotta decide which one will come first!

Twist Online : Are you active on social media? What’s the best way to
follow you online?
Empath : I do have Snapchat (JLowww), Facebook (TheRealEmpath), and Instagram (@empathicc). I’m trying to stay off them more cuz so many people are addicted to their screen and it’s annoying. Definitely hit me up on the socials tho, i’ll appreciate that. Show some love!
