Interview with multi-talented Bri Berlay
Today on our Hot Seat we have Bri Berlay with us. Let’s have a chat
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Bri Berlay : My name is Bri Berlay The Brassiest of the Brassiest
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Bri Berlay : As a young kid I loved theatre and musicals and grew an appreciation for live shows. I got into the music industry after establishing myself in the East Village/LES New York City. I fell in love with the massive Trouble & Bass sound and the city’s underground electro scene. I first met DJ Sean MF’N Roberts & Alex English of GBH Events. Alex English always let me party in the VIP at Webster Hall so I partied with everybody like; Justice, Skrillex, Boys Noize etc. I was part of it and attended the the parties like it was my job. I love GBH, they single handedly brought the best music and talent to New York City. They’d host multiple parties a night and created a real culture around the sound. If you ever saw the documentary Electro Wars, it was exactly that. During this time I had a hunger to discover new and old music. I became obsessed with old school rap, Italo disco and Miami bass. I decided to express my knowledge of current electronic music and the old school obscure stuff by djing. Each gig was different and I never really pre planed what I was going to play so there was a pressure to discover all types of music and genres. This phase of my life is what drove me to take the music industry seriously. I was becoming wise without knowing it.
Twist Online : Tell us about your current project?
Bri Berlay : I’m releasing singles at the moment. My next single is a release called “Butt Naked.” It’s a party banger.
Twist Online : All the tracks are good but any particular track(s) that you will recommend to our readers?
Bri Berlay : I recommend everybody listen to “Party By Myself.” The beat is by So Drove who also produced my track “Big Bank ft. TT The Artist,” as well as “Shine On ft. TT The Artist, CupcakKe and Kreayshawn.” “Party By Myself” is upbeat, fun and I love the self-confident message “I don’t need nobody else, I can party by myself.”
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Bri Berlay : I love performing this song. Even before I released it, fans would approach me after the show remembering the lyrics.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Bri Berlay : There is NOTHING like performing onstage. My live show is WILD, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I perform with a Dj, drummer and dancers and love interacting with the crowd. Each show is very special to me and I like to like to give my fans a new experience each time.
Twist Online : All the tracks are written by you ?
Bri Berlay : Yes
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Bri Berlay : 100%. I’m currently in the process of moving to Los Angeles to further my career. I’m collaborating with major high fashion houses and designers on a campaign that integrates music and fashion. I intend to make a movie with RZA and release new music produced by Destructo.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Bri Berlay : For sure! In addition to touring and the fashion campaign, I’ll be releasing my debut album “The Brassiest of the Brassiest” in 2019. I’m working in the studio on that and filming the videos. Expect new music before the year!
