Today on our Hot Seat we have Matthew Gray with us. Let’s have a chat with him.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Matthew Gray : Hi! My name is Matthew Gray. I’m the frontman of the indie pop act “Matthew And The Arrogant Sea”.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Matthew Gray : I don’t know that I ever really aspired to be in the “industry”. I was inspired to write and create something different, something special—something that made your mind wander off, as if you were a part of the story.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent project ‘A bump on the head in three parts’?
Matthew Gray : When we first started shooting, I don’t think anyone ever really knew what to expect out of this. Is it a music video? A short film? A nightmare? A dream? Personally, I think of it as more of a mystery. It captures how beautifully random, and peculiar life can really be. We snuck off to hidden “secret” locations with our close friends and family to shoot this magical short in odd and frightening environments. There are puppets, zombies, and ghosts, etc.
Twist Online : What kind of response are you expecting from the release?
Matthew Gray : We’ve been recently humbled by being accepted into the Newark International Film Festival, as well as Indie Best Film Fest, and we are truly just excited to share what we’ve created.
Twist Online : What about “Matthew And The Arrogant Sea – Traveling Show”?
Matthew Gray : We had such a blast shooting this video. Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement of a new video soon!
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Matthew Gray : That’s tough for me to say. Performing is such a huge part of who I am. It’s in my blood, it always will be. Working in other mediums, especially with film has been inspiring in new and beautiful ways.
Twist Online : What is the biggest achievement in your career so far?
Matthew Gray : I’ve been fortunate enough in my young life and career to have had the pleasure of meeting so many folks who have been touched by my music. To me, that is the best thing I could I have ever achieved.
Twist Online : Are you working on any other project?
Matthew Gray : MATAS is currently knee deep in the writing process of a new LP. We are excited to be recording it this fall. We will have new music soon! []
