Interview with music artist Nicholas Cameron Masters

Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
Hello! my name is Nicholas Cameron Masters. I was born in Fresno California and am a junior in high school. I am just a 16 year old that likes to write music.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
hm what inspired me. I think what really inspired me were other artists who weren’t afraid to be themselves. I had major confidence issues and SEVERE anxiety. I’m talking walking in the grocery store and about to have a mental breakdown bad. I grew up loving to write music but just didn’t have the confidence to sing it myself. This past year I’ve been working on myself and getting better and better each day. My friends and family helped TREMENDOUSLY. So to answer the question, perspective and friendships.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release “Annex of Stars”?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
Annex of Stars was actually quite a quick mixtape. I had a whole other album that I’ve worked on for about a year. But one day everything just kinda clicked and it didn’t sound like what I was wanting. I decided to scrap everything and didn’t work on music for about 4-5 months. I came back to writing and that’s where Annex of Stars was born. This project was kinda I guess you could say inspired by Ariana Grande. On one of her songs called “Better Off” she has the lyrics “steering clear up any headaches to start”. But when I first heard the song I mistook the lyrics for “staring up at Annex Of Stars” and when I found out those weren’t the lyrics I was pretty disappointed so I decided to write my own song. The album was written between November 2018 to January 2019.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :

The response was absolutely great! This was my first album, or any project for that matter. I haven’t released any songs prior to the album (except Dream Chasers), so I wasn’t expecting anything big to come from it. The day I released it I got several texts, dms, and snapchats from past friends, girlfriends, and random people that I was actually making pretty good music. If I’m being honest I didn’t really expect the outcome, but I am very grateful it wasn’t taken as a joke. I’m very happy to be given the platform I have.

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
I’m kind of weird when it comes to this stuff. I’ll go from listening to EDM to country like nothing. But the two main genres I prefer are RNB and Hip-Hop/rap. My favorite artists of all time are: Trippie Redd, Travis Scott, Ariana Grande, and Jhene Aiko. These artists are my favorite because they don’t just stick to certain types of beats, styles, or genres. They all have insane uniqueness in all of their albums.

Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
The best part? I would say the best part isn’t anything other than helping people deal with their problems in the form of songs. These songs helped me at a time when I really needed someone or something to be there for me, and I did! Just as someone else with not as many friends, or not as social. Everyone needs to cope, and I think the best part is being allowed to share my creativity with other people like me and to help them through whatever situation they’re dealing with.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
Of course! I’d like to be maybe touring in the future and working with other artists. I would also like to go to studio sessions more often and maybe get a lyricist. I’ve been writing my music alone, so having someone to help me when I can’t think on what to put onto paper would really help and I feel be easier. Then again I love writing lyrics by myself because they are more personal, but I know the feeling will be the same no matter what.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Nicholas Cameron Masters :
Yea I have some singles ready to drop around May or June, but as far as an album there’s nothing really ready to go yet. All I can say is it will be finished definitely before October, and there will definitely be a couple singles being released before then.
