Interview with rapper and songwriter PurpZ

PurpZ aka Brenton Haynes (born April 23, 1992) is an American rapper/songwriter from Victorville, California. We recently interviewed him for our magazine. We are sharing it here.

Twist Online: First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
PurpZ: I’ve always been into music. I actually started writing at about 8 years old and I was finally able to record my first track when I was 16.

Twist Online: Who or what inspired you to get into the music industry?
PurpZ: I’ve always expressed myself differently and the freedom of making music and there being no rules to follow made me really want to keep it going through out my life time, I never want to stop.

Twist Online: Tell us about your recent release?
PurpZ: I have a few new songs out with Ben Tennison called OG and Loud Pacc for the Bass. I have to say these are 2 of my favorite tracks that I’ve recorded this year.

Twist Online: What kind of response you have received from the release?
PurpZ: Nothing but great feedback! Everyone I have shown my new music to gives me props and I can tell they are into the music when they start singing along with the hook and giving me that “you made this?” look.

Twist Online: What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
PurpZ: Working in studios, honestly I have only performed a few times as much as I would like to more, I’m comfortable in a studio setting. I have my own version of a recording booth at home and I like being able to create something new almost everyday, it’s rare I wake up and I don’t have some sort of music idea or beat in my brain ready to bust out.

Twist Online: What’s your favorite music genre?
PurpZ: It’s hard to differentiate now a days I think, anything with a solid beat and bars so I would say hip hop and some of my generation of alternative rock that I grew up with.

Twist Online: Have you set some target to achieve as a music artist?
PurpZ: Yes I want to get to one million plays on a single track. I challenge myself everyday thinking what is next and how can I improve. My spotify just started up a few months ago and is already close to breaking 2,000 monthly listeners.

Twist Online: Are you currently working on any other project?
PurpZ: Yes, I always have something in the works. Right now I am working on a new full length album that will be released in early 2018: Planet PurpZ is the name. I started working on it in the middle of this year and still have a ways to go until it’s prefect and ready to drop but it’s a project I’m really excited about
