Interview with Rock & roll revivalist, Josh Christin

Josh Christina is bringing the sounds of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis to a new generation of listeners; and his newest single “Rockstar” showcases his love of rock & roll, blues and soul with a hint of country. We have recently interviewed him for our magazine.

Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your music career.
Josh Christina :
Growing up, music was always around me. My mom was a local singer in Baltimore, and my grandmother was a big band singer in the 40’s so it’s kind of in my DNA. I heard Elvis for the first time at around age six and it all started there.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Josh Christina
: It all started when I was about six years old and heard Elvis Presley for the first time. My mind was blown! That got me into rock and roll and lead me to Jerry Lee Lewis, which is when I started playing piano. If it hadn’t been for Elvis, who knows if I would’ve gotten into music. Later on I found Chuck Berry and he got me into writing my own music.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release “Rockstar”?
Josh Christina :
I wrote Rockstar for all the dreamers out there. It’s for the kids who, just as I did, heard an artist, a song, a sound at a young age and decided they wanted to go on this crazy journey of music. The song isn’t directly my story but most of it I’ve experienced or felt.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Josh Christina :
People really seem to like it. I think they like the story of it and the feeling it puts out.

Twist Online : What makes your music different from other?
Josh Christina :
I think what separates me is that I’m taking old school stylings and I guess you could say vibes and giving them a modern twist. Taking the old and making it new again.

Twist Online : You have also released the music video of your track “unlisted”. Tell us more about that?
Josh Christina :
The video was really fun to shoot! I worked with Gregg Landry at BlueRock productions right here in Baltimore. We really tried to convey a story of someone maybe rediscovering themselves or getting reminded of where they came from. Showcases of the journey of “Rockstar”.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, Working in studios or performing on stage?
Josh Christina :
Performing on stage for sure. I love a lie audience. The studio is different. You’re more focused and serious and trying to get it just how you want it and tweak every detail. Live you’re taking the same songs and almost reworking them and they take on a new light in front of live crowd. The energy you get from people always charges you up!

Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a music artist?
Josh Christina :
Again, I’d have to say the best part is performing and the live shows. There’s nothing like playing your music for a live audience.

Twist Online : Have you set any goals to achieve?
Josh Christina :
My main goal is to be able to have fans all over the world and perform all over the world. Be great to travel and play music!

Twist Online : Are you active on social media? What’s the best way to follow you online for updates?
Josh Christina :
Yes I am. You can keep up with me on Facebook and Instagram @JoshChristina57. All my music is on Spotify and you can also check out my website, www.joshchristinamusic.com.
