Interview with singer-songwriter Aretha Henry
Aretha Lafayette Henry is an American Singer-Songwriter born in Jackson, Mississippi. We are sharing our recent interview with her.
Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your music career.
Aretha Henry : I started my music career in 2008. I began recording singles like “I want you” not even thinking about recording
a full album. My husband (also my engineer/producer) talked me into recording and releasing my debut album, Beautiful.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into the music industry?
Aretha Henry : I always knew that I wanted to be a singer. I looked up to people like Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson. I always
wanted to pour my heart into songs like they did.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ‘Nothing’?
Aretha Henry : “Nothing” is a soothing ballad about taking a break. As women, we tend to “push through” our moods to get things done.
This is a good quality to have, but sometimes, we need to respect our mood and allow ourselves time to slow down and breathe.
Twist Online : What kind of response have you received from the release?
Aretha Henry : So far, it has been overwhelmingly positive.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, Working in studios or performing on stage?
Aretha Henry : I love a stage. I love a microphone. Either one works for me, but I think that I love the stage more than the studio.
There’s just something about performing live.
Twist Online : What’s the best part of being a songwriter?
Aretha Henry : The best part of being a songwriter is being able to be direct…in song, being able to put my thoughts and feelings
into words, having a soundtrack of my life.
Twist Online : Have you set any goals to achieve?
Aretha Henry : A grammy would be nice (smiles). Other than that, I’m just doing what I love to do and enjoying every minute of it.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Aretha Henry : Not at the moment, but I might be very soon. Stay tuned.
