Let’s meet Grant Smith, an army man with deep love for music
Today on our Hot Seat we have a talented musician Grant Smith with us. Let’s have a chat with us.
Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Grant Smith : Howdy! I’m Grant Smith, a musician from Fairland, Oklahoma, currently serving in the US Army.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into the music industry?
Grant Smith : I’ve been playing piano since I was five, and picked up the guitar shortly after. I’d say music solidified as a career for me after a day of busking with my trumpet in Grove, OK. A woman asked me to play some “New Orleans style jazz” when I played O’ When The Saints, she smiled and danced. I noticed that little shine in her eye and realized that’s what I want to do with my life.
Twist Online : You must have a number of fans in the army as well?
Grant Smith : Haha a lot of my unit are learning about what I did in the civilian world and becoming fans. It’s great, music is a fantastic way to unwind at the end of the week or a long day of training.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ‘Brooken eyes’?
Grant Smith : Broken Eyes actually came about in an interesting way. I had stepped on my glasses, leaving them crooked and bent, but couldn’t afford new ones. These literal “Broken Eyes” led me to write both this track and Crooked, another single of mine. Obviously both are not about crooked glasses, rather a crooked state of mind, a broken eye for beauty.
Twist Online : Unfair is the other track that got our attention? Our readers would like to know about that?
Grant Smith : Unfair was written about those relationships where you are made to feel wrong for asking certain questions – asking what is going on between the two of you, asking things that would generally make you feel more secure in the coupling.
Twist Online : What kind of response have you received from these releases?
Grant Smith : So far, both from back home and around the world, I’ve received some great responses. Broken Eyes is by far my most popular song, which is to be expected. It was my first track with the talented producer Marc Solomon. Unfair was a result of our dual hand as well.
Twist Online : What attracts you more, performing on stage or working in studios?
Grant Smith : Performing on stage, without a doubt. The best lessons are learned live.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Grant Smith : For now my goal is to continue my training, In the meantime, I plan my next album and keep moving forward.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Grant Smith : At the end of two or three months I will be able to head into the studio and record my next album, which I plan to keep brief but high quality. I’m currently writing the content for that record.
