Meet the singer and songwriter ‘Josh Hollin’

Today on our Hot Seat we have singer and songwriter Josh Hollin. He recently released single “Summertime Valentine” . We will be asking him about his life, music and recent release as well.

Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into music profession?
Josh Hollin : Hello! 🙂 My name is Josh Hollin and I’m a singer/songwriter from Hagerstown, Maryland. Before moving back to my home state of Maryland, I had actually been living in  Missoula, Montana, which is where I believe I truly developed my craft as a songwriter and story teller. Rapping wasn’t something I even considered or even took seriously until I moved back to Maryland, to finish middle school and high school. Those were the years where my obsession with Pop and Hip Hop really collided.

Twist Online : What proved to be influence to make you join the music industry in a very early age?
Josh Hollin: If I’m being completely honest, nobody really INSPIRED me to want to do this. I just knew from the time I opened my first CD that this was exactly what I wanted to do. I grew up in a very musical family though! My Dad is a music teacher and plays the French Horn and so does my brother. My Mom also sings and I remember when I was younger she would always play Earth, Wind & Fire and The Gap Band, so I’d like to think that I get my soul and swagger from her.

Twist Online : You recently released your single “Summertime Valentine” tell us about that?
Josh Hollin :  When I wrote “Summertime Valentine,” I was really shocked that there were no other major artists with that title because the title sounded so obvious to me and it made the song so easy to write. I had obviously heard other summer lovin’ jams like “Summer Love,” by Justin Timberlake, “Summerboy,” by Lady GaGa and “Summertime Sadness,” by Lana Del Rey but nobody quite said it in that way. I’ve never actually been in a relationship, but as a songwriter I don’t always write what I have been through but sometimes I write about what I desire or what other people desire. This song was definitely a fun/catchy way to capture and incorporate the concept of love with the vibe of summer!

Twist Online : We came to know you are working on your debut EP “The Morning After”, when it’s expected to release?
Josh Hollin : I’ve been working on “The Morning After,” for about two years now and it’s about 60%-70% done. I would love to have it out by the end of 2016 but if I’m being practical I would probably say the beginning of 2017. The excitement has been too real.

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Josh Hollin : Pop, Hip Hop, RnB and Jazz.

Twist Online : You are currently signed with record label Hoot/Wisdom Recordings, How is your experience with them?
Josh Hollin: My experience with Hoot/Wisdom Recordings L.L.C has been sensational simply because of the fact that I have learned so much about the industry, networking and collaborating with other people. I did a track on “CompOWLation Vol. 5,” with my fellow label mate Vanessa Gallardo called “Make Believe,” which will be released Nov. 4th of this year. The song isn’t like anything I’ve ever done before but I wanted to really push myself sonically and try something new. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with some really amazing producers and musicians on it and I’m really excited for everyone to hear it!

Twist Online : You got two callback auditions with the producers of the NBC hit reality show The Voice. It seems all going good for you?
Josh Hollin : My experience with “The Voice,” was amazing as it was my first time in New York City and it was probably the first time I really had the confidence in myself to really go for this. I auditioned a couple of years ago and they told me the producers wanted me to come back in a few years and try again so IDK. We’el see what happens.

Twist Online : What are your future goals as a music artist?
Josh Hollin : Aside from world domination, I really want to be that friend for someone that all of my favorite artists were to me growing up. I can’t tell you how many times I had felt completely isolated from the world until I turned on my favorite record and felt like I wasn’t alone. Even though I don’t always write from my perspective, THAT’S what I want my music to do to people. I want my music to make you feel love, sadness, happiness and pain all while dancing your heart out.

Twist Online : What’s the best way to follow you online?
Josh Hollin : You can check me out on all platforms @joshhollin and my website joshhollin.com will be launching very soon so be on the lookout for that! 🙂
