Mellow Otis talks about his passion for music and recent releases
Sharing with our readers our recent interview with Mellow Otis who has been making music from around 15 years. Now into the rapping he has released some nice tracks.
Question : Our readers would like to know about the start of your professional career.
Mellow Otis : Well, I’ve been in love with music from a young age. My grandfather got me a guitar for my 6th birthday and that’s when I really remember falling in love with sound and music. I started making electronic music when I was 15 because I wanted to be a techno DJ, but that just left me defeated because it didn’t go anywhere. I’ve been a hip-hop head for a while, so I decided to give beats a try and I got some good responses. I don’t know any other rappers so I just decided to put my own verses down and see what happens. I’ve been puting out hip-hop music for close to a month now.
Question : Who or what inspired you to get into rapping?
Mellow Otis : My main influences are probably Doom, Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi, and Biggy forsure he’s my favorite rapper. I grew up pretty far away from the cities so when I was
yonger, hip-hop was the “bad” music to listen to so I never really listened to it. Later though I got into it because all of my friends were always playing it all of the time so I’d
hear songs I actually liked. I started rapping at parties, we’d all battle rap randomly and try and make all kinds of music. When I made some beats I really enjoyed, I started putting some
verses down on it and I was hooked.
Question : Tell us about your recent work?
Mellow Otis : Recently I’ve just been trying to get my music out there. I’ve put out 3 songs in the last week, and I’ve been making beats in my spare time. Apart from that I’m dreaming up my first
album and kind of getting ready to do a real project. I plan to put out an album within the next year, but I work a full time job and music isn’t the only thing going on in my life.
Question : What kind of response you are have received ?
Mellow Otis : On the 3 songs I’ve put up I’ve gotten a lot of good responses, and some bad ones. Right now I’m not very good at rapping but I really enjoy doing it. A few artist have contacted me
about features so that’s a deffinent possability in the near future.
Question : What attracts you more performing on stage or working in studios?
Mellow Otis : I love it all really, studios are great for when you wanna solidify concepts. On the other hand shows are the main reason for all of this in my opinion. Being on stage or in the
audience, live music is one of my favorite places to be.
Question : What’s your favorite music genre?
Mellow Otis : My favorite genre varies a lot. Lately I’ve been into jazz and r&b, I’d have to say blues has always been my real favorite though. I love the passion and the honesty in the vocals,
blues music just has the most expression in my opinion.
Question : What’s your next goal to achieve as a music artist?
Mellow Otis : I want to start making my own music videos and uploading them to youtube. That’s probably what I’ll focus on next, I have no idea how to edit but I’ll figure it out.
Question : Are you working on any new projects?
Mellow Otis : I’ve been in album mode ever since the singles I put out gained some following. I really wanna put out a good album with real production. I wanna show the world what I can really
do with my music.
