Mirai Tomli Talks About His Music Journey !
Mirai Tomli is an inspiring and passionate artist who has been on the music scene since 2009. Started with band Nappy Hair but then started working solo. We recently had a conversation with him about his professional life and recent music.
Twist Online : Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Mirai Tomli : My name is Mirai Tomli originally from Brooklyn but I kick it in queens. Rosedale.
Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Mirai Tomli : Well I remember as a young one I saw baby pictures with me and fisher price audio equipment, I guess I have a gift so to speak. In the house my parents would play celine dion, otis redding, whitney houston, michael jackson & as I grew up I listened to Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Usher, John Mayer up to Bryson Tiller. I’ve always had an open ear to what was good music.
Twist Online : How was your experience as a part of band Nappy Hai?
Mirai Tomli : I was a vocalist in the group mainly because I always knew i was mean’t to sing. It was an interracial group, two African american men & a Caucasian male. The production was done all by the other black male known now as “Kota The Friend” and “Peter Parker” (now Highchairs) rapped. Our last show in fact was at “The Knitting Factory” in NY opening for Slum Village. The group inspired me to then later start producing a lot of my music myself under the alias “Thurston Esquire” to better know myself as a producer. I love the original Nappy hair to this day and will always bump the album “Nappy Hour” in times of need, the sound has progressed to this day though with the addition of taste makers and I’m thankful to be a part of this.
Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ?
Mirai Tomli : Well I have released the single “Long Hair” off of my new album “Hangloose” to soundcloud and I’ve gotten atlas nearly 4,000 streams. The record is about my never ending thirst for females and my understanding based on experience. I’ve experimented with more electronic sounds this stage in my production and it’s come out to be a beautiful mix of R&B and electronic soul. The album is here April 10th via #bandcamp
Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from your release?
Mirai Tomli : Like I said we have nearly 4,000 streams and I hope to have the album sell in the same fashion.
Twist Online : What attracts you more performing on stage or working in studios?
Mirai Tomli : Wow they’re definitely two beasts with similarities and differences. I’d have to say performing on stage attracts me more because when I’m in the studio I can’t help but think about how much love will receive and create for whatever time i’m on stage and when the fan base remembers the moment or check the IG footage of the event.
Twist Online : What inspired you to create your label “Through My Eyes Entertainment”?
Mirai Tomli : The need to secure my sound and my hopes on working with a bunch of artist all inspired by what myself and my team do everyday.
Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve as a music artist?
Mirai Tomli : A few grammies for sure, yea. A BET honor wouldn’t hurt either. Selling out Madison Square garden too. I also hope for any artist that signs to have a great relationship with me and my companions and the work be phenomenal.
Twist Online : Are you working on any new project?
Mirai Tomli : Yea, I’m always cooking 2018 is my year. I claim that shit lol.
