Music artist Japanic talks about his life & music

Today on our Hot Seat we have a talented artist Japanic with us. Let’s have a chat with him.

Twist Online : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Japanic :
I’m Japanic, I’m 20 years old and live in Stirling, Scotland. I’ve been making music for around 10 years. My solo music under Japanic has been going for around 2 years, and its been great.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Japanic :
I’ve always wanted to, my parents brought me up around music, and introduced me to so many great artists. I picked up a guitar at 7 years old and haven’t put mine down since, I love it. My biggest inspiration are definitely Led Zeppelin + Nirvana.

Twist Online : Tell us about your recent release ‘icy cold’?
Japanic :
‘icy cold’ explores the deep emotions of being lonely in a crowded room. ‘I wanna go, this just is’nt home’ is my favourite line, it just feels so right, being in a familiar place, with people you love, yet still feeling empty and alone. It happens to all of us, and I wanted to capture this in the best way possible by referring to this as an icy cold experience.
Khalil hit me up with yet another amazing feature, he’s my favourite artist to collab with, this man has the lyrical depth of a poet, and it shows. His feature is crazy, if you haven’t heard it yet please do!

I really wanted to explore some synth work in this song so mixing khalils vocals with some synthy drops just felt so right.

Fun fact: this song came together over a year ago, I was just too scared to release it until it was perfect to me.

Twist Online : What kind of response you have received from the release?
Japanic :
It has blown me away if I’m honest. This is my biggest track so far, pushing past ‘don’t wanna go back’ within a fortnight was crazy. I promoted this song heavily to my friends and Instagram followers, and they loved it.

Hopefully the buzz continues!

Twist Online : What’s your favorite music genre?
Japanic :
I’m not going to lie, I don’t have one, right now I’d say I listen to a lot of bedroom pop (boy pablo, clairo, still woozy etc.).

But in general I’d say its definitely got to be classic rock and grunge, its nostalgiac for me I guess.

Twist Online : What attracts you more, working in a studio or performing on stage?
Japanic :
both, there’s a chill vibe working in the studio, but the chills and adrenaline from performing is so fun. I miss it.

Twist Online : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Japanic :
I really want to meet my fans, I have an amazing following of around 2k on IG and about 125k listeners on Soundcloud. It would be amazing to sing along with them all.

I also really want to collab with Billie Eilish, but I’m not sure of a date on that one, just watch out for it some day.

Twist Online : Are you working on any new projects?
Japanic :
Yes, all the time! I have a 3 track EP in the works with Khalil and I have about 20 tracks ready to drop, just a matter of when. (definitely dropping something this month)
